Our friends at have been hard at work this month installing fascines across the Northern Venetian wetlands. These bundles of branches act as natural barriers, buffering storms, reducing erosion, and protecting fragile ecosystems. We’re so proud to support this work💚

We're proud to support in their efforts to rewild the Scottish Highlands 🌲
Their Wild Pine Project has recently uncovered its most significant discovery to date: a forgotten wild pine woodland of extraordinary diversity.
“This is the most diverse woodland we’ve found and likely the largest wild pine site overlooked until now. There are thousands of wild pine trees here,” says Jane, Project Officer.
Overlooking the iconic shores of Loch Ness, this remarkable landscape is rich in native wildlife and natural heritage. While parts of the woodland are thriving, much of the site is at risk from non‑native conifer plantations—making its discovery a vital step towards long‑term protection and restoration.

Travelling across the north and west of Scotland, Jane, the Wild Pine Project Officer, searches for forgotten fragments of ancient Caledonian pinewood. Last year, one journey meant paddling across a loch, where she found a fragment of pinewood surviving on small islands, protected simply by being out of reach from grazing animals. 🛶

“This special woodland has quietly endured here for centuries,” says Jane. “The diversity of places like this can spark wider ecological recovery across the landscape.”

With support from partners like TreadRight, these hidden places are being rediscovered and protected - helping nature, communities and the landscapes that inspire responsible travel.

🌿 Full Circle: Respecting the Lagoon
Cleaning the Venetian lagoon isn’t just about removing rubbish, it’s about restoring a cycle that sustains life and livelihoods. Healthy wetlands mean thriving marine populations, which support local fishermen who value the natural world and in turn this supports the restaurants that celebrate traditional Venetian cuisine.
Through ’s work, traditional knowledge and practices are being preserved, creating a future where nature, culture, and community flourish together. When we respect the lagoon, we protect more than an ecosystem, we protect a way of life.
