BP Fellows 🤝 2,000 Swedish Scouts

⚜️Over 600 BP Fellows and distinguished guests gathered together with Swedish Scouts for Scouts’ Day in the Hagaparken on Saturday.

Scouts aged 8–15 competed in everything from knowledge of knots 🪢and nature 🌱to fire 🔥 and memory games — and above all, their ability to cooperate. BP Fellows had the pleasure of learning about Swedish Scouting and hearing Scouts’ inspiring stories.

“I think it has been very, very fun to be here today,” said HM The King of Sweden. “I am proud that all the international guests have had the opportunity to come here and experience the day with you, because you are the ones who make this so wonderful. Never forget that you are never alone. Just here today, we are almost 2,000 scouts, but around the world we are nearly 60 million. Sixty million Scout friends.”

At the end of the day, HM The King of Sweden recognised five new BP Fellows and nine BP Fellows moving through the Honours Programme Circles.

A wonderful surprise came when His Majesty awarded our CEO, Mark Knippenberg, the Gustaf Adolf-märket, the highest honour awarded by the Swedish Scout movement after the Silvervargen (Silver Wolf). The Secretary General of WOSM, David Berg (BP Fellow and WSF Board Member), and also Stefan Mahlstein (HP/BP Fellow and WSF Board Member) and Stephen Peck received the Gustaf Adolf-märket. Julius Kramer (Young BP Fellow) was honoured with the Silver Wolf, and Andy Chapman (BP Fellow), former Chair of the World Scout Committee and past WSF Board Member, received the Bronze Wolf 🐺, the highest award given by the World Organization of the Scout Movement. ⚜️Congratulations to all!

A huge thank you to Scouterna, for a beautiful day that brought us back to the heart of what we support: , , ⚜️

His Royal Highness Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg now takes on the role of Honorary Chair of the World Scout Foundation!

On Saturday night, the torch was passed by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, our Former Honorary Chairman and new Honorary Founder.

A member of the Foundation’s Board since 2017, Chief Scout of Scouting in Luxembourg, and a Scout since His formative years, His Royal Highness has been a constant advocate for Scouting and a committed supporter of the Foundation’s efforts to grow its impact through stronger engagement and increased fundraising.

In His new role, His Royal Highness will work alongside the Board, Baden-Powell Fellows, partners and supporters to build on the momentum created under His Majesty’s leadership, helping ensure that World Scouting can reach and support even more young people, in more communities, for generations to come.

For nearly five decades, His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has served as Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation with uplifting charisma, purpose-driven leadership, and a strong moral compass.

It is no exaggeration to say that the reach, strength, and spirit of Scouting over these past fifty years have been directly shaped by His Majesty. In grand halls and humble campsites alike, in moments of ceremony and quiet connection, through both defining speeches and simple human encounters, His Majesty has championed Scouting and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Scouts worldwide. This steadfast commitment has helped inspire a 60-million-strong movement united by a shared passion for Scouting and the good it can produce in the world.

As His Majesty concludes this remarkable chapter of service, we offer our deepest gratitude for His extraordinary contribution. With the highest respect, the World Scout Foundation and the Baden-Powell Fellowship express their sincere appreciation to His Majesty for a lifetime of service and an enduring commitment to building a peaceful, more inclusive world.

In a deeply symbolic moment last night, Our Scout King was awarded the Gold Wolf, “a unique distinction conferred only twice before,” said BP Fellow Craig Turpie, who co-presented the award, “first in 1917, by Lord Baden-Powell to His Royal Highness Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, His Majesty’s maternal great-grandfather; and secondly, in 1953, to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition of her patronage of The Scout Association in the United Kingdom.” It was presented jointly by The Scouts of the UK and Scouterna of Sweden, represented by BP Fellows Göran Hägerdal and Linn Ternefors, and UK Chief Volunteer Carl Hankinson. This award was a beautiful capstone to a night celebrating nearly 50 years of His Majesty’s service as Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation and His transition to Honorary Founder.

After so many years of guiding others, we wish His Majesty a well-earned moment by the campfire — confident that His light will continue to inspire the path ahead for millions of Scouts, now and for generations to come.

Yes, you read that number correctly! Tonight, you have honoured an extraordinary legacy, and funded the future of Scouting.

As a symbol of this 9.6 million dollars, His Majesty presented 9.6 million seeds to Scouts.

Through the King’s Fund, your generosity will open doors to Scouting across the globe, empower young leaders, and help build peace and inclusion where it’s needed most.

A heartfelt thank you to His Majesty, for inspiring this extraordinary contribution, to our generous BP Fellows, for their belief in the life-changing power of Scouting, and to you, whether you’re a long-time supporter or brand new here, for joining us in this Scouting journey.

A peaceful and inclusive world, planted today, growing for generations.

⚜️On Friday, several hundred leaders, young changemakers, and representatives of society from around the world gathered in Stockholm for the seminar A Peaceful and Inclusive World.

At a time marked by conflict, polarisation, and global uncertainty, questions of peace, democracy, inclusion, and values-driven leadership were at the centre of the discussions.

In his opening speech, our Honorary Chairman, His Majesty the King, returned to the role of Scouting as a global movement founded on shared values, where young people around the world are given the opportunity to grow, take responsibility, and contribute to something greater than themselves.

One of the seminar’s keynote speakers was Nobel Peace Prize laureate and journalist Maria Ressa, who spoke about the resilience of democracy, freedom of the press, and the importance of defending truth in a digital age.

The next speaker was entrepreneur and Scout Fabian Hedin. He repeatedly returned to the importance of community, trust, and people’s ability to grow through responsibility and confidence. Drawing from his own experiences, he described how both Scouting and Swedish society have been shaped by a culture where young people are encouraged to test ideas, fail, and try again.

Dr. Andres Morales presented his research on how Scouting’s non-formal education contributes to peacebuilding through relationships, shared experiences, and encounters between people from different parts of the world.

In the seminar’s closing remarks, World Scouting Secretary General David Berg returned to how issues of peace, sustainability, and opportunities for young people are interconnected. He described how Scouting is built on creating safe environments where young people are given the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging, be listened to, and fully be themselves.
