Restoring lives in Cameroon’s Far North: more than 27,000 people facing severe food insecurity have recently received cash assistance, nearly one-third of them children under five.

These families are at extremely high risk of malnutrition, which can have devastating consequences for children’s growth and long-term development.

With support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Croix-Rouge Camerounaise teams and volunteers are working tirelessly to deliver essential aid, uphold dignity, and strengthen food security and resilience.

But more support is urgently needed. To reach the 330,000 people most in need, additional funding is critical.

Hate speech is not “just words”.

In crises, hate speech and dehumanizing narratives can fuel stigma, deepen divisions, put people at risk and undermine access to life-saving assistance.

On this International Day for Countering Hate Speech, the IFRC highlights findings from the World Disasters Report 2026, launched in March, which shows how harmful information is affecting disaster response, public health emergencies, migration and conflict.

Addressing hate starts with rebuilding trust. Across the world, our
IFRC network teams work with communities to listen, share reliable information and support dignity, safety and inclusion.

Because in today’s crises, trusted information can save lives.

Misinformation can spread as quickly as a virus and it can cost lives.

During the Ebola outbreak, fears and rumors prevented some people from seeking medical care and put humanitarian workers at risk. That's why trusted information and community dialogue are essential parts of every emergency response.

Across affected communities, volunteers from the Croix-Rouge de la RDC, with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, work side by side with local leaders and families to listen, answer questions, and share accurate health information.

When communities are informed, they are empowered to protect themselves and each other.
