For too many women and girls, public transport can mean facing the threat of sexual harassment. In Tanzania, the Pink Bajaji initiative is helping change that by training women to become taxi drivers.

The result: safer transport for women and girls, alongside income opportunities for the women behind the wheel.

Each month, around 2,000 women and girls travel in Pink Bajaji taxis. The initiative also plans to expand its training to women bus drivers.

Founded by Modesta Joseph, CEO of Our Voices Against Harassment and a member of the Global Shapers Dar es Salaam Hub, Pink Bajaji shows how local changemakers can create safer, more inclusive communities.

Pollution may be global, but some of the most effective solutions are local.

Across communities, young people are:

🌊 Monitoring river pollution with citizen-generated data
🌱 Replacing concrete with plants to cool cities and filter rainwater
🚲 Scaling clean-air initiatives across 16 cities
♻️ Using AI to track and remove plastic waste
🏭 Helping reduce emissions from brick kilns by up to 70%

What do young people think will shape the economy of tomorrow? Inequality tops the list.

According to Youth Pulse 2026, the World Economic Forum's flagship youth report, most young people point to growing inequality between rich and poor as a defining economic trend, followed closely by the rising cost of living and housing.

The third trend was the widening gap between education and job-market needs — signalling that economic concerns are not only about income, but also access to opportunity.

🏙️ More than 400,000 households living in informal settlements on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar have almost no access to safe green public space.

The Ulaanbaatar Hub's Ulaanbaatar Oasis transforms something residents already use every day, water kiosks, into community-owned pocket parks. Trees, seating, weather protection, and traffic-safety features turn these essential neighborhood spaces into places where communities can gather. A 2023 pilot created 401 m² of greenery and planted more than 70 trees in just six weeks.

As a winner of the 2026 Global Shapers Innovation Prize, Ulaanbaatar Oasis will create new sites, involve residents in their design, train local caretakers, and develop standardized designs that can be replicated.

The 2026 Innovation Prize was delivered in partnership with the Global Alliance for YOUth and Accenture.

Congratulations to Ismaela Magliolo Quevedo, a Global Shaper from the Valparaiso Hub, on being named to Forbes Chile’s 30 Under 30! 👏

As co-founder of Fundación Uno Punto Cinco, Ismaela is helping accelerate climate action and the energy transition in Chile and beyond, mobilizing a new generation of climate leaders along the way.

From representing young voices at COP27 and COP28 to contributing to Chile’s National Climate Change Commission, Ismaela has been at the forefront of climate action.

Ismaela joined the Global Shapers Community as part of the first cohort of the Valparaiso Hub in 2024.

In Namibia, the Windhoek Hub is working on a project called Better Boys, Better Men, to create conversations around healthy masculinity.

The project provides mentorship, safe spaces, and life-skills support for boys aged 16–21, pairing participants with positive role models from their own communities.

As a winner of the 2026 Global Shapers Innovation Prize, Better Boys, Better Men will grow from 20 to 100 participants while helping remove practical barriers to participation through support for meals and transport.
