Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of dignity, justice, and equitable development. We conduct field-centered research, provide independent expert analysis and do advocacy. We implement innovative projects involving media, art and new technologies, which contribute to building dialogue, promoting tolerance and raising awareness. We strive to build communication channels, wo
rking with journalists, experts, peace negotiators, IR experts, media innovators, international organizations, civil society, and scholars. We raise issues and generate constructive debates through a variety of platforms such as podcasts, Bulan Dialogues, webinars, animated films, art festivals and op-eds. We work closely with national and international civil society and media to increase dialogue, promote understanding and facilitate engagement, as well as strengthening civil society and media through capacity-building projects. We conduct research on the ground, publish comprehensive expert reports, discussion papers and briefings, and build dialogues on different platforms. We spark debates on issues such as emerging security challenges, how to prevent conflicts, how to limit threats to peace, and how to strengthen civil society and the media to ensure effective checks and balances on state power. Through publishing opinion pieces and conducting ‘Bulan Dialogue’ interviews, we ensure that these important issues are raised and discussed in the international media. Our staff consists of security experts, security journalists, IR experts, and lawyers. We also accommodate a wide range of interns from national and international universities. The Bulan Institute accepts donations and grants, however to ensure our independence we do not accept government funds, directly or indirectly, or support from any private funder that could compromise our objectivity and independence.
