⚠️ Chagas disease is still too much ignored, increasing beyond Latin America, and with dangerous impacts years after infection from the "kissing bug."

Historically, uncertain data has hampered efforts to improve the response.

👉 Now, the RAISE study provides up-to-date, accurate data and interactive access, as featured on the World Heart Observatory, to improve prevention and management for millions around the world.

Learn more about Chagas disease:

The RAISE project reassesses the global burden of Chagas disease, including mortality, prevalence, and economic impact, led by Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in collaboration with the World Heart Federation.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death globally, responsible for nearly 20 million deaths every year. Yet it rarely occurs alone. Many people also live with conditions such as:

💔 Hypertension

💔 Diabetes

💔 Obesity

💔 Mental health disorders

💔 Chronic kidney disease

Today, the World Heart Federation launched a new Roadmap on cardiovascular disease and multiple long-term conditions, calling for health systems to treat the whole person, not just one disease at a time. Why does this matter?

🌍 Around 37% of adults globally live with multiple health conditions.

💊 Many patients take several medications and see multiple specialists.

🔄 Care is often fragmented and difficult to navigate.

Integrated care brings healthcare professionals together so patients can receive coordinated, person-centred care that reduces hospital visits and improves quality of life. Learn more at the link in our bio.

A special thank you to our lead partners, and AstraZeneca for making the Roadmap possible, and to Novo Nordisk and Roche for supporting the Roadmap Summary.

Cardiovascular disease is the NUMBER ONE KILLER of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths every year.

It kills more women than all forms of cancer combined, and it affects women of any age.

It does not discriminate.

And yet, cardiovascular disease in women continues to be understudied, underdiagnosed and undertreated due to misconceptions and lack of awareness, even among doctors and patients.

Let's stop living in the past. Let's listen to women's hearts.

07/03/2026

Governments, classrooms, clinics... even to this day, women continue to open doors in places that once denied them entry.

But there's still so much to do, and some myths still cost lives.

Heart disease is NOT a "man's disease". This misconception has real consequences. Many women with heart disease are dying because they are still underdiagnosed, undertreated and under-represented in clinical trials. Their voices go unheard and their symptoms are not taken seriously enough.

Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death in women worldwide. It is responsible for 30% of deaths in women every year, more than all forms of cancer combined. It can affect women of any age. It does NOT discriminate.

Let's stop living in the past and start listening to women's hearts.
