🌙🙏 Indian Association Geneva wishes everyone a blessed Lent & Ramzan Mubarak - Ramadan Kareem 🙏🌙
This week marks the beginning of two sacred observances for our Christian and Muslim community members — Lent and Ramzan — each a beautiful journey of faith, reflection, and renewal.
✝️ Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday, 18th February 2026, is a 40-day season of spiritual reflection, fasting, and prayer. It mirrors the 40 days Jesus Christ is believed to have spent fasting in the Judean desert, where he resisted temptation. The Lenten period excludes Sundays and culminates with Holy Week, commemorating the final days of Jesus’ life, crucifixion, and resurrection.
The season concludes with Good Friday on April 3, 2026, and Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday) on April 5, 2026.
The date of Easter shifts each year as it follows the lunar calendar — it’s celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. In 2026, an early full moon brings an earlier Easter celebration.
☪️ Ramzan (Ramadan) began on 18th February in Switzerland and 19th February in India. The differences in dates arise from the sighting of the moon. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is observed for about 29–30 days, culminating in Eid al-Fitr, expected around March 20–21, 2026 (subject to moon sighting).
During this holy month, Muslims fast daily from sunrise to sunset — beginning their day with Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and breaking their fast after sunset with Iftar, often shared joyfully with family and friends. The period emphasizes prayer, self-discipline, empathy, and acts of charity.
🌺 Lent and Ramzan, though distinct in tradition, share powerful common themes — reflection, prayer, compassion, and charity. Both encourage believers to look inward and uplift others.
🤝 The Indian Association Geneva extends heartfelt wishes to all our members observing Lent and Ramzan. May this season bring you peace, faith, and spiritual renewal.
