Are you curious about what it really takes to turn an idea into a successful, funded venture with real impact?

Don’t miss Talk to the CEO, a live session where entrepreneurs share honest insights from their journey, from early-stage experiences to scaling a venture and navigating key decisions along the way.

We’re excited to welcome Sophia Hummelman, climate tech founder and former Chief Commercial Officer of ReCarbn. She helped transform early-stage carbon removal technology into a venture with €450K in commercial contracts, secured over €1M in funding and grants, and led the company through its acquisition by Skytree.

If you’re building a climate, sustainability, or impact-driven venture — or thinking about starting one — this session is for you. 🌱🚀

🌱✨ Meet the innovators behind the solutions ✨🌱
Following the announcement of the Youth Ecopreneur Awards, we’re taking a closer look at the people, and the realities, behind these ventures 👇
🏆 Camila Saa – Satellites on Fire (Argentina)
Wildfires are becoming more frequent and harder to control, often detected too late to prevent large-scale damage. Camila’s solution, Satellites on Fire, uses AI to detect fires at their earliest stages by combining satellite imagery, ground cameras, and weather data. Already operating across 19 countries, the platform helps authorities and communities act faster.
🏆 Hellen Munyasa – Helton Traders Limited (Uganda)
In many communities, plastic waste is both an environmental challenge and an untapped resource. Hellen founded Helton Traders Limited to address both. By converting post-consumer plastic bottles into polyester sewing threads, her company not only reduces pollution but also creates income opportunities — particularly for women and youth involved in waste collection and production.
👏 Joshua Forte – Red Diamond Compost Inc. (Barbados)
In the Caribbean, sargassum seaweed and organic waste are growing environmental concerns, while farmers face rising costs for fertilizers. Joshua’s venture, Red Diamond Compost Inc., connects these challenges. By transforming waste into regenerative agricultural inputs, the company supports healthier soils, improves crop yields, and offers a more sustainable alternative for farmers.
🌍 These ventures reflect how youth entrepreneurs are building solutions rooted in real challenges, and scaling them into impact.

Week 13 at YECO: Navigating the realities of scaling

In Week 13 of the YECO Accelerator, entrepreneurs continued the Scale Up Business Simulation, diving deeper into the complexities of scaling a startup.

Working in teams, participants forged ahead with developing their ventures through multiple rounds of the simulation. Entrepreneurs focused on defining their funding roadmaps, thinking strategically about how different investment rounds shape their scale-up journey and what funding paths best support their long-term growth.

As the simulation progressed, teams were introduced to different investment instruments and investor types, encouraging them to reflect on which funding options best fit their businesses and how these choices influence their ability to scale.

💡 Key insight from Week 13: Understanding how to structure your funding journey is essential for scaling a sustainable business.

Which investment instrument do you think is most critical for early-stage startups to scale? Share your thoughts in the comments👇
