It was a pleasure to welcome back our former director Fr. Mike Deeb OP to our Geneva office this week. He met our current director, Fr. Aniedi Okure OP, and Blair Matheson TSSF, director of Franciscans International, for an exchange of ideas on ongoing advocacy priorities, collaboration within the Dominican and Franciscan families, and the evolving challenges our work for justice and peace is facing. Moments like these remind us of the importance of exchange and the shared commitment that strengthen our mission.

We celebrated it earlier this month, but for us the Feast of St Dominic is more than a date on the calendar, it’s a reminder that his life continues to shape our work every single day.
Dominic’s commitment to truth, dialogue, and compassion wasn’t confined to one moment in history. It was a way of being in the world. Seeking justice, accompanying those at the margins, and building peace through presence and integrity.

At Dominicans for Justice and Peace, his example guides us year‑round. In our advocacy at the UN, in our partnerships with communities, and in every effort to defend human dignity. His legacy encourages us to stay rooted in hope, courageous in action, and attentive to the needs of our time.

May the spirit of St Dominic continue to inspire our steps. In August, and throughout the year.

A warm welcome back to Laurence Blattmer, she rejoined us in Geneva as Programme Coordinator at the start of August after a well-earned sabbatical. She used her first days to reconnect with the UNOP Director, Fr. Aniedi Okure, and the rest of the team at our Geneva office. It’s wonderful to have her with us again as we continue advancing on our justice and peace mission.

On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we join UNODC in highlighting the 2026 theme: “Trapped behind the scam.” Too many people are coerced into cyber‑enabled fraud operations under violence, fear, and exploitation .Dominicans for Justice and Peace stands for their protection, dignity, and justice.

This week we celebrate the end of Clyde’s 6‑week internship with Dominicans for Justice and Peace in Geneva. His dedication, curiosity, and commitment was enriching our work and the civil society community here at the UN Office in Geneva. He created a short video to recap his journey with us.

On today's World Environment Day, the team in Geneva joined the GENeva World Environment Day Forum as part of the Geneva Interfaith Forum on Climate Change, Environment and Human Rights (GIF). Our intern Clyde Lambert, from Providence College, helped us with the distribution of our handbook on Climate Change and Human Rights Education for Youth in the Philippines.

The Vienna team participated in the 35th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice this week at the Vienna International Centre. 600 civil society participants from 130 different NGOs attended the Commission this week. The delegation attended many interesting side events, organized by the United Nations, various member states, and civil society organizations. This year saw a clear focus on events centered around Crimes Against the Environment and a potential additional protocol to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. Furthermore, the team attended the informal dialogue with the new Executive Director, Ms. Monica Juma from Kenya, as well as the dialogue with the Chair of the CCPCJ, H.E. Rüdiger Bohn. The last day saw another important event for civil society at the UNODC, the General Assembly of the Alliance of NGOs. An umbrella network coordinating civil society engagement on crime related matters in Vienna, in which Dominicans for Justice and Peace have been very active for years. The CCPCJ this year was a successful, eventful, and busy week for the delegation.
