Defence for Children International

Defence for Children International Grassroots movement for children's rights - Focus on Justice for Children. Its International Secretariat is based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Defence for Children International (DCI) is an independent non-governmental organisation that has been promoting and protecting children’s rights on a global, regional, national and local level for 30 years. The DCI Movement is represented through its grassroots national sections and associated members in more than 45 countries worldwide. The DCI movement was founded in 1979, the International Yea

r of the Child, at a time when few international structures were dedicated to a rights-based approach in addressing the many challenges facing the world’s children. DCI was at the forefront in the drafting process and international lobby for the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and its work continues to be embedded in these fundamental principles. Since 2005, Justice for Children has been the overachieving priority of the Movement.

51% of Palestinian child detainees were held in administrative detention without charge or trial by the end of 2025.

Behind every statistic is a child deprived of freedom, family, and due process. Accountability cannot wait.

🚨The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has been declared a “public health emergency of international concern” by the World Health Organisation.

Children are among those most severely affected by the Ebola virus. They face heightened risks from infection, shortages of essential supplies and services, and the long-term psychosocial impacts of the crisis.

🌍Defence for Children International – Democratic Republic of the Congo / BIFERD is on the ground supporting their community.

🚨When children speak up, we need to listen🚨

Layan, a child advocate from Palestine, addressed the UN Human Rights Council on behalf of Defence for Children International.

Layan spoke about the everyday realities of life under occupation.

She powerfully reminds us, “Our request is simple: we want to live with dignity, to learn, to feel protected, and to move safely in our own land.”

🚨On 21 April 2026, the European Union failed to suspend the EU–Israel Association Agreement, despite sustained calls from international bodies, civil society organisations, and human rights actors.

The EU–Israel Association Agreement, in force since 2000, is the legal framework governing political dialogue, trade, and cooperation between the European Union and Israel.

DCI joins over 185 organisations in calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
