What happens when music is silenced and art is pushed underground? Afghan artists continue to create.

Last month in Geneva, "Blooming Afghanistan: Art Resists – Hope Blooms" brought Afghan artists, human rights defenders and audiences together through an exhibition at the Palais des Nations and a concert at Victoria Hall. The initiative showed how art can remain a powerful space for expression, resilience and hope.

In this interview, Afghan artist and human rights defender Nazifa Jalali and musician Arash Barez speak about creating under repression, the importance of keeping Afghan culture alive, and what freedom means to them.

🇫🇷 : OMCT is concerned by allegations of excessive use of force and mass arrests by police since the start of led by high school students.

🚨 Certain less-lethal weapons can cause serious, sometimes permanent, injuries. Any use of force must be lawful, necessary and proportionate.

🛑 and other ill-treatment are absolutely prohibited even when a protest is no longer peaceful. Children are entitled to heightened protection.

France must protect the right of children and youth to participate in protests safely and free from torture and other ill-treatment.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Andrea Bolaños Vargas, is preparing a thematic report on the health and psychosocial well-being of human rights defenders.

The survey seeks to better understand the impact of human rights work on defenders, as well as the coping and resistance mechanisms that help sustain their work.
