On World Heart Day Remember - Healthy hearts. Healthy brains. Fewer strokes.

stroke accounts for 1 in 3 deaths attributed to CVD each year and many of those deaths are an associated with cardiovascular risk factors that can be identified, treated and managed?

High blood pressure is associated with more than half of all strokes, while atrial fibrillation (AF) increases stroke risk five-fold. High cholesterol, diabetes and other cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure and coronary heart disease, also contribute to stroke risk.

Hypertension and AF can often remain symptomless and undiagnosed until a stroke occurs - making routine blood pressure checks, detection of irregular heart rhythms and access to treatment, critical components of global stroke prevention.

Screening, appropriate medication, regular monitoring could save your life from stroke.

With World Stroke Day approaching on 29 October, the World Stroke Organization invites you to support the campaign and get ready to share the message that by spotting the signs of stroke and seeking emergency medical treatment immediately you could save a life and reduce the risk of a lifetime of disability.

1 in 4 of us are at risk of stroke in our lifetime, so ensuring everyone in our community can spot a stroke and knows to take action is vital for everyone!

To support the campaign effort the World Stroke Day 2026 campaign toolkit provides guides and ready-to-use resources for anyone to use to support online and offline awareness and community engagement activities.

Available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Portuguese and Spanish.

🧠 World Brain Day 2026 | Every Brain Deserves an Equal Chance

Where you live should never determine whether you survive a stroke, recover from one, or live with lifelong disability.

Yet today, millions of people around the world still cannot access the stroke prevention, emergency treatment and rehabilitation services that could save their lives and protect their brain health.

Stroke is one of the world's leading causes of brain-related death and disability. Every year, 12 million people experience a stroke, and 94 million people are living with its effects. Without urgent action, stroke deaths are expected to increase by 50% by 2050, with the greatest impact falling on low- and middle-income countries.

There is hope.

This year, governments around the world adopted the first-ever WHO Resolution on Stroke—a landmark commitment to strengthen stroke prevention, emergency care, rehabilitation and long-term support. It provides a roadmap to improve brain health and make quality stroke care accessible to everyone.

For some people stroke changes everything - for some their experience becomes the driver of change. We're looking for 20 individuals with lived experience of stroke who are having an impact on stroke awareness, service development, policy or research.

To celebrate 20 years of the World Stroke Campaign we're launching a global search for 20 people using their voice to make real change to the world of stroke.

4 voices from each global region will be selected to feature on our campaign website, and every nominee will be listed in our roll of honor.
