After years of groundwork, listening, and partnership-building, Extremely Together is now active in the Sahel!

We are proud to launch Extremely Together Niger and Extremely Together Burkina Faso, two new country chapters of our global youth-led initiative to prevent violent extremism.

The Sahel has faced a significant security and humanitarian crisis in recent years, a situation that disproportionately affects young people and their future prospects. Since 2022, the Kofi Annan Foundation has been working to develop a meaningful, locally grounded response to these challenges.

Last week, that commitment became reality.

In close collaboration with local youth organisations, Cercle.Dev in Niger and Association SUUDU ANDAL in Burkina Faso, these new chapters will support young people’s actions for peace and social cohesion in their communities.

Extremely Together in the Sahel is rooted in a simple conviction: young people must be part of the solution. By strengthening youth capacities, supporting peer-to-peer learning, and promoting their inclusion in decision-making spaces, we aim to help ensure that young people have a real stake in shaping a more peaceful future.

This launch marks a significant milestone and the beginning of a new chapter of youth-led peacebuilding in the region.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the assassination of Rehan Zeb Khan, who was a member of Extremely Together Pakistan. Rehan was killed yesterday as he was running for a provincial assembly seat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Western Pakistan.
---

In the context of these extremely tense elections, Extremely Together and its members reaffirm their stance for peace and democracy.

---
Violence is never - and will never be - the solution.
---

Rehan Zeb Khan, a fierce campaigner for human rights and civic freedoms, demonstrated the power of youth leadership for peaceful change in adverse conditions. We admire his courage and dedication. Our condolences go to his family, friends and the Extremely Together Pakistan members.

We call on the Government of Pakistan to ensure the safety and security of all young leaders in the country.

From Ukraine to Sudan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Israel-Palestine, and so many other places, conflicts are flaring up, causing immense suffering and massive displacement.

"If science tells us that human activity is the main driver of global warming, then human action can also reverse it. But this must happen before the climate consequences become irreversible. Failing to act will be nothing short of catastrophic." - Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General

🌍🤝 "Promoting peace at a global scale requires us to bridge silos across sectors and areas of expertise - now more than ever we need to bring together the security, policy, humanitarian, development, military, conservation, business, tech and other communities to craft sustainable solutions for nature, people and planet." - Hannah Moosa

This powerful message from Hannah Moosa, Program Officer at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) set the tone for her compelling keynote address at our recent ChangeNow - The largest event for the planet session. 🎤

In an age where the lines of division seem to grow, Hannah reminds us of the importance of unity across sectors and expertise for the sake of our planet and future generations.

Our Story

We are 10 Young Leaders, all active in preventing and countering violent extremism in their communities and beyond. Brought together by the Kofi Annan Foundation, we produced the world's first guide, by young people for young people, on how to counter violent extremism your community.

Today, we reach out to young people around the world, share our own expertise, and work on creating a global movement of young persons stemming the tide of extremism.
