HURIDOCS

HURIDOCS Human rights defenders need evidence, law and research to advocate justice and accountability.

HURIDOCS (Human Rights Information and Documentation Systems) is an NGO that helps human rights groups gather, organise and use information to create positive change in the world. Since 1982, we have developed methodologies and tools that make it easier not only to manage collections of evidence, law and research, but also to analyse them for insights. In all that time, the technology has evolved

but our passion for the cause remains unchanged. Information is a force for good—as long as human rights defenders are able to safely and efficiently make sense of it.

Human rights documentation work shouldn't stop because of lack of funding. That's why we created the HURIDOCS Documentation Fund.

Swipe to learn how we are bridging the gap between the growing demand for documentation support and the organisations that need it most, and how you can help.

📅Last week, the network of organisations from the Observatory of Human Rights Defenders in Chiapas, El Obse , gathered for their retreat to reflect, strategise, and strengthen their collective work.

☝️Participants reviewed the reach of their latest report, analysed the context of violence facing human rights defenders in the region, and discussed recent aggressions against the 'CDH Digna Ochoa' centre and the raid of 'CDH Fray Matías' offices.

☝️Our Programme Manager, Salva Lacruz, joined the retreat as HURIDOCS closely partners with El Obse to support the technical side, work with the network on updating their Uwazi database and website, and improve their documentation and data analysis workflows.

We are proud to accompany the ongoing work of this network in a context where human rights defenders frequently face threats and violence.🕊️

We asked our partners at El Obse to share the key findings from their latest report on violence against human rights defenders in Chiapas.

⭐Our partners at Transgender Europe (TGEU) put together a practical guide on how they use Uwazi to monitor and document anti-trans violence across Europe and Central Asia.

The guidelines walk through how TGEU built their documentation system, from data modelling and database setup to security and data visualisation, in support of their Anti-Trans Violence and Trans Murder Monitoring projects.

A great resource for organisations looking to understand how Uwazi can be put to use for human rights monitoring and advocacy.

🌍 HURIDOCS collaborated with the Centre for Human Rights to develop a database that maps the domestic impact of the UN treaty system. The academic launch of the 'Database on the Impact of the United Nations Human Rights Treaties at the Domestic Level' was held last week.

The database serves as a reference tool to help researchers to readily access the data they need, and aims to promote enhanced scholarship on the topic of domestic impact. It is envisaged that the database will be publicly launched by the end of 2026.
