People living with NCDs in humanitarian settings face multiple challenges simultaneously. Often, disruptions in care and the supply of medicines can become life-threatening.

In her blog for the Global Week for Action, Sylvia Khamati Anekha shares her experience from the Røde Kors and how the organisation, alongside local partners and with the support of Novo Nordisk Fonden, is taking the lead on NCDs by strengthening continuity of care in crisis settings in East Africa.

✍️"Continuity of care cannot be viewed as an additional health activity introduced after the emergency phase has passed. It must be integrated into preparedness, response, and recovery efforts from the beginning," writes Khamati Anekha.

As sales of to***co and ni****ne products soar and promotion expands, including through digital channels, concerns are growing that these products are being normalised among young people before governments have had a chance to respond.

Following ***coDay, explore a blog by Yayne Hailu and Dr Melina Samar Magsumbol of Vital Strategies as they share their perspectives on the rise of ni****ne pouches and argue for stronger regulation, monitoring, and enforcement to keep pace with evolving marketing tactics, and protect future generations from addiction.

Following ***coDay, read this insightful piece from Global Alliance for To***co Control, which unmasks the appeal of ni****ne products and explains why the industry's "harm reduction" narrative is a smokescreen for youth addiction.

✍️ "To protect future generations, governments must move beyond reacting to individual products and instead build comprehensive non-medicinal ni****ne governance frameworks capable of resisting industry interference, anticipating future industry innovations, and prioritising public health over commercial interests," write the authors.

"The core question should always be: who is included, who is excluded, who benefits, who pays, and who holds power?” — Ali Hisham, a person with lived experience of and an NCD Alliance Our Views, Our Voices Fellow.

Last week, Ali participated in a dynamic discussion organised by Transform Health Coalition on the sidelines of .

He shared his insights and perspectives on digital health, barriers to equity, data rights, privacy, and power imbalances between manufacturers and people using devices to manage their NCDs.

🗨️“People often have no real alternatives for managing their conditions, so they are forced to accept unfair conditions around pricing, availability, access, and data use. This gives manufacturers significant power over access, pricing, availability, data, and design.”

He urged decision-makers to share power and meaningfully involve people living with NCDs in decisions that affect their lives.

🗨️“Digital health can only be transformative when it is designed with, and for, the people who are usually excluded from power."
