Golden Rock Estate on the island of St. Kitts was the location where the act to abolish slavery was proclaimed on August 1st, 1834. The enslaved weren't freed at that time. According to the abolition act passed August 1833 in England and later passed in St. Kitts in July 1834, the enslaved would enter the apprenticeship period. This apprenticeship era lasted 4 years. The Europeans said the enslaved needed time to ease into freedom but this was really to appease the owners of enslaved persons by giving them additional years of free labour as compensation for the loss of their property(the enslaved Africans). In addition to that there was the financial compensation to the enslavers. The owners of Goldenrock compensation package can be seen in the images below. 170 enslaved £2784 8s 4d compensation amount. What does that equate to today. Where are the descendants to the owners today? Source ucl.ac.uk

Hope this post will help us identify where the descendants are today so Reparations can be made to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Hastings was the home of some of the wealthy Brisco family who had houses in Hastings Old Town and at Bohemia and Coghurst for most of the 19th century. It seems that the Briscos came to England...
