August 4, 2020, remains a deeply traumatic date for every Lebanese person.

235 people killed. More than 7,000 injured. Entire neighbourhoods destroyed. Thousands of lives turned upside down.

Six years later, the pain remains as intense as ever, while the victims’ families are still waiting for justice to be served.

L’Orient-Le Jour felt a duty to examine what led to the twin explosions, distinguish fact from fiction, and bring together the pieces of a puzzle that remains incomplete.

Months of work culminated in the documentary film August 4, 2020: Anatomy of a Foretold Catastrophe, directed by Lucile Wassermann and edited by Jad Abou Jaoudé.

It is being broadcast this week on Canadian television and on the German channel Deutsche Welle.

In Beirut, the documentary will be shown at Cinema Metropolis on August 6 and 7 at 6:00 p.m., in two special screenings. Watching it on the big screen, facing the port, is an unforgettable experience.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!
As we step into a new chapter filled with purpose and hope, we look back with gratitude at what we accomplished together in 2025.

𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗳 𝗘𝗹-𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗲𝗶𝗷𝗮𝗻𝗶 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁)
We transformed Soueijani into a living laboratory for rural innovation to stand as a model of sustainable development — planting trees, supporting young beekeepers, reviving forests, and creating local economic opportunities.

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝟰 𝘂𝘀)
We redefined pediatric care and transformed the hospital experience for hundreds of children with chronic diseases by deploying the POSITIVE project to 4 major hospitals in — lifting spirits and bringing more comfort, and joy to children receiving treatment.

𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
We renovated and equipped the Zaarour and Saint Jerome rooms at Saint Joseph University of — giving students access to modern tools for interpretation, academic events, and international collaboration.

𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘁)
We added essential equipment to the Hôtel-Dieu de France neonatology unit — a state-of-the-art vein viewer and a pediatric bronchofibroscope — ensuring safer, more comfortable care for newborns.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 (𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝘁 𝗘𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮)
We fully equipped computer labs at Collège Cadmous and Saint George School in Tebnine — opening access to digital education for more than 2,000 students.

𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 (𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗲)
We launched Lebanon’s first national screening initiative — offering early detection, free low radiation X-rays for suspected cases, and raising awareness for healthier futures.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 to our partners, supporters, volunteers, and communities. Together, we brought hope, dignity, and opportunity to thousands.

Led by La Clinique Sociale de l’Enfant, supported by ALAM Suisse and Fondation Diane, and carried out with Hôtel-Dieu de France UMC and Saint Joseph University of Beirut, this national program brings free school screenings and low-radiation X-rays to children across Lebanon—giving every child the chance to grow up strong and healthy.
