The PEFC API is now available.

Organisations can now integrate certificate and licence verification directly into their own systems and workflows. 💻

The API provides access to independently maintained PEFC certification information, helping organisations streamline supplier verification and reduce manual certificate checks.

Potential applications include:

▪️procurement and sourcing systems
▪️supplier management platforms
▪️due diligence workflows
▪️ERP and business systems
▪️sustainability and reporting processes

As sourcing requirements continue to evolve, organisations are increasingly looking for efficient ways to access trusted certification information and integrate verification into existing workflows.

We are now onboarding organisations based on their intended use and integration requirements.

🚀 PEFC launches its new Project Sourcing standard

Today marks an exciting milestone for with the launch of our new standard, alongside updated certification body requirements.

Developed through more than 18 months of collaboration, the standard brings together expertise from across the construction and certification sectors, as well as PEFC national members, to ensure it responds to evolving market expectations and regulatory requirements.

🌲 Why this matters

Construction projects often involve complex supply chains, multiple contractors, and a wide range of suppliers. Building on more than 15 years of experience of PEFC Project certification, the new standard aims to help contractors maintain robust traceability and demonstrate that the forest and tree‑based materials they use come from sustainably managed forests.

It offers a practical approach for organisations committed to responsible sourcing, transparent reporting, and ensuring their forest and tree-based materials are legally harvested and responsibly sourced.

💚 Thank you

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of the members of our working group. Their contributions have been invaluable in helping strengthen the connection between sustainable forest management and the built environment. 👏

Together, we are helping shape a more sustainable future for construction.

How can certification remain robust, efficient and fit for future challenges? 🌳

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming accreditation bodies and certification bodies to Geneva for our annual ABs & CBs Forum, a full day of exchange and collaboration and practical discussions.

Agenda topics included updates on the PEFCRED Scheme, EUDR DDS revision, the new PEFCProjectSourcing Standard, the Empowering Consumers Directive, PEFC’s system revision, accreditation challenges and digitalisation, with a particular focus on making audits more robust, efficient and cost-effective.

The day also provided valuable opportunities for group discussions, knowledge sharing and reconnecting. 🗣️🤝

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the constructive discussions. Your insights and engagement are essential as we continue strengthening credible forest certification together. 💚

A new landmark for sustainable construction has been completed in London 🌲

Timber Square demonstrates how responsibly sourced mass timber can help deliver ambitious, low-carbon developments at scale. Built using 6,500m³ of PEFC-certified CLT sourced from Stora Enso and combining new construction with the reuse of an existing building, the project sets a new benchmark for sustainable commercial design.

The project is now in the process of securing certification under the new Project Sourcing Standard, providing independent verification of responsible material sourcing.

📅 Want to learn more? Join us on 17 June at Timber Square for a special event in association with Built by Nature and supported by Timber Development UK and learn more about the building process, sustainable timber construction and .

From temporary pavilion to long-term public asset 🌲

After four years serving as a venue during the renovation of Finlandia Hall, Little Finlandia is beginning a new chapter - this time as part of Helsinki’s public infrastructure.

Around 70% of the building is now being relocated and repurposed, with most of the structure becoming an extension to a secondary school in Tapulikaupunki, and part of it moving to Tali Sports Park. 🏗️

Designed from the outset as a relocatable, modular building, Little Finlandia shows what circular construction can look like in practice. Instead of a single-use structure, it was built to be dismantled, transported and reassembled - extending its lifespan and reducing waste.

The project makes extensive use of Kerto® LVL, demonstrating how responsibly sourced timber and smart design can go hand in hand to lower the carbon footprint of buildings. 🌳

🌱 Join PEFC's upcoming webinar on Project Sourcing certification and discover how responsible sourcing can support green building projects.

As expectations around supply chain transparency grow, project teams need reliable ways to demonstrate where their materials come from.

certification helps organise and verify sourcing information for forest- and tree-based materials, supporting:

✅ Compliance with procurement policies and due diligence requirements
✅ Verified material traceability and sustainability reporting
✅ Streamlined documentation across project teams and suppliers

The certification can support material disclosure requirements in leading frameworks, including BREEAM, LEED, DGNB, Nordic Swan and CASBEE.

certified materials are also recognised in Built by Nature’s Principles for Responsible Construction Implementation Framework.
