PEFC and the ASEAN Furniture Industries Council - AFIC have renewed our partnership for another two years to continue advancing responsible sourcing across the ASEAN furniture sector.

Building on four years of collaboration, the renewed partnership brings together PEFC’s expertise in sustainable forest management and certification with AFIC’s strong network of national furniture associations and industry stakeholders across ASEAN.

Over the next two years, we will continue working together through knowledge sharing and industry engagement to support furniture companies in strengthening responsible sourcing practices, increasing awareness of certified forest-based materials and responding to evolving sustainability expectations.

📢 Deadline extended: nominations now open until 14 September

There’s still time to get involved in shaping the future of the PEFC standards.

We’ve extended the deadline for nominations to the working groups and task forces supporting the PEFC system revision until 14 September 2026.

We’re looking for experts and stakeholders who can bring technical knowledge, practical experience and diverse perspectives to work covering sustainable forest management, Trees outside Forests, group forest management certification, ecosystem services, integrity, data and assessment.

By taking part, you can bring your experience directly into the revision process and contribute to strengthening the value PEFC certification provides for forests, forest owners, certificate holders and the wider PEFC Alliance.

Our new Project Sourcing Certification Standard has been shortlisted for the Product/System Innovation Award at the UK Structural Timber Awards 2026.

Developed with expertise from across the Alliance, certification bodies and the construction sector, the Standard offers a practical and flexible way for construction projects to demonstrate the responsible sourcing and traceability of forest- and tree-based products. 🏗️🌳

“It’s wonderful to be shortlisted for this important industry Award. A lot of work has gone into the new Standard from across PEFC globally,” says Marta Martinez Pardo, Certification Programme Senior Manager at PEFC International.

The winners will be announced on 7 October in Birmingham. 🤞

Illegal logging remains one of the biggest challenges facing global forest product supply chains, accounting for an estimated 15–30% of the global timber trade.

At the APEC Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) meeting in Shenzhen, China, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing legal and sustainable timber trade across the Asia-Pacific region.

Representing PEFC, Benson Yu highlighted how , chain of custody and due diligence solutions help businesses demonstrate the legal origin of forest products and meet evolving regulatory and market requirements. He also underscored the importance of collaboration to strengthen market confidence and build more resilient forest value chains.

As digital technologies such as AI, DNA profiling and blockchain continue to transform timber traceability, international cooperation and credible certification have never been more important.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with APEC economies and EGILAT members to strengthen sustainable forest management, enhance timber legality and promote responsible forest product supply chains.

Our public consultation on the revised standard remains open until 25 August, and we invite all interested stakeholders to share their feedback.

Public consultation is a key part of PEFC's transparent, inclusive, and consensus-based standard-setting process, helping us ensure our standards remain practical, credible, and responsive to evolving regulatory requirements.
