Last week’s in Istanbul brought together PEFC members, forestry professionals and stakeholders from 40 countries. 🌲
During four panel discussions, speakers explored the future of sustainable forest management, resilient forests and timber construction in a changing climate.
🏗️ Panel 1 focused on how timber construction can support low-carbon development and resilient infrastructure, particularly in earthquake-prone regions such as Türkiye.
Speakers highlighted timber’s advantages as a lightweight, high-performance building material, innovation in modern timber architecture, and the growing role of in verifying responsible sourcing across projects. 🪵
🌳 Panel 2 explored how sustainable forest management and certification can help forests adapt to climate change, drought, pests and increasing wildfire risks.
Key themes included adaptive forest management, biodiversity protection, forest monitoring, wildfire prevention and restoration, and the connection between resilient forests and resilient communities. 🌱
Together, the discussions highlighted how the future of resilient construction is closely connected to the future of resilient forests, and why sustainable forest management and innovation must go hand in hand.
