🐾 Now live on AO Surgery Reference: Reorganized Basic Techniques for Dogs & Cats 🐾
We’re excited to announce the release of the reorganized Basic Techniques in the dog and cat modules on AO Surgery Reference 🎉

These sections provide a clear, structured overview of essential techniques in small animal fracture management, fully aligned with the AO principles. The reorganization improves navigation and learning by distinguishing between:
🔹General basic techniques – including cortical lag screw insertion, cerclage wiring, and plating principles (neutralization, compression, bridging, buttress), enriched with OSapp simulations and videos.
🔹Module-specific basic techniques – tailored to anatomical regions such as the humerus, radius/ulna, femur, tibia, and more, with anatomy-specific illustrations.

Some techniques focus on optimizing workflows (eg, plate preparation), while others support deeper learning through interactive simulations and surgical videos—designed to strengthen understanding and practical application.

Discover the updated structure and strengthen your foundation in small animal trauma care.

🐱 New AO Surgery Reference module released – Cat proximal tibia fractures 🦴
We’re pleased to announce the release of the module on the management of proximal tibia fractures in the cat.

Authored by Kenneth Johnson (Australia) and edited by Amy Kapatkin (USA), this comprehensive module covers diagnosis, positioning, surgical approaches, and complication management, with a strong focus on fracture-specific fixation techniques.

🔍 What’s included?
• Detailed guidance on extraarticular, partial articular, and complete articular fractures
• Clear indications for nonoperative and operative treatments
• Step-by-step descriptions of fixation techniques using plates, lag screws, K-wires, and tension band wiring
• Craniomedial, craniolateral, and cranial approaches to the proximal tibia
• Dorsal recumbency positioning and basic techniques

🖼️ The module is supported by around 300 original illustrations.
This resource supports surgeons treating challenging injuries such as avulsion fractures, multifragmentary metaphyseal fractures, and complex articular fractures, including salvage procedures where indicated.
