Meet Dalitso Sakala, an 11-year-old child of choma town in southern province of Zambia, whose dream of going to school was interrupted when his parents had to withdraw him because they did not have a wheelchair to support his mobility. He often cried as he watched other children continue their education while he remained at home.

On Unity Day, July 7, Dalitso received a wheelchair during a fitting program that Blu spring Zambia had with the local organization, This has restored his hope and opened the door for him to return to school. Your support has given him more than mobility—it has given him the opportunity to continue his education, regain his confidence, and look forward to a brighter future.

🚶‍♂️🐾 Journey Update: On the Road to Mobility

After successfully crossing the Alps, Luca continued his journey through the stunning landscapes of Switzerland, passing through Lucerne and its beautiful valleys on his way towards Bern, the Swiss capital.

Along the route, he enjoyed many wonderful encounters with local people, reminding us that some of the greatest treasures of a journey are the connections made along the way. In Bern, Luca was also able to share a special moment with his sons, Davide and Emile, over a family dinner.

While the summer weather has provided plenty of sunshine, it has also brought some challenges. Led, Luca's faithful companion, has been struggling with the heat and has developed some soreness in his paws. To give him the rest and care he needs, Luca took a few days' break in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

The good news is that both Luca and Led are ready to continue their adventure. Tomorrow they will set off again, with their sights on the next milestone: Besançon, France.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, followed, and encouraged Luca along the way. Every donation helps turn his steps into mobility and opportunity for children with disabilities in Zambia.

🚶‍♂️🐾 Aggiornamento dal Cammino: Sulla Strada della Mobilità

Dopo aver attraversato con successo le Alpi, Luca ha proseguito il suo viaggio attraverso gli splendidi paesaggi della Svizzera, passando per Lucerna e le sue magnifiche vallate in direzione di Berna, la capitale svizzera.

Lungo il percorso ha vissuto molti bellissimi incontri con la popolazione locale, a dimostrazione del fatto che uno dei doni più preziosi di un viaggio sono le persone che si incontrano lungo la strada. A Berna, Luca ha anche avuto l'opportunità di trascorrere una serata speciale con i suoi figli, Davide ed Emile, condividendo una cena in famiglia.

Se da un lato il bel tempo estivo ha regalato giornate di sole, dall'altro ha portato anche alcune difficoltà. Led, il fedele compagno di viaggio di Luca, sta soffrendo il caldo e ha sviluppato qualche problema alle zampe. Per permettergli di riposare e recuperare completamente, Luca ha deciso di fermarsi per alcuni giorni a La Chaux-de-Fonds.

La buona notizia è che sia Luca che Led sono pronti a riprendere il cammino. Domani ripartiranno con entusiasmo verso il loro prossimo obiettivo: Besançon, in Francia.

Grazie di cuore a tutti coloro che stanno seguendo, sostenendo e incoraggiando Luca lungo questa straordinaria avventura. Ogni donazione contribuisce a trasformare i suoi passi in mobilità, indipendenza e nuove opportunità per i bambini con disabilità in Zambia.

🇬🇧 A very special day at Wheelchairs for Kids in Perth 🇦🇺

Yesterday, as representatives of Blu Spring, we had the privilege to visit the incredible Wheelchairs for Kids factory.
Jeff gave us a wonderful behind-the-scenes tour, and after hundreds of emails over the years, it was truly special to finally meet Don in person.

As it was National Volunteers Day, we also attended the special morning tea celebrating the amazing volunteers whose dedication makes all of this possible. Their work is changing the lives of thousands of children around the world.

It was also a pleasure to meet Greg and the legendary Brother Olly — Australian Senior of the Year 2025 and co-founder of WFK.

During a short presentation and video, we had the opportunity to share the impact these wheelchairs are making in Zambia and the difference they bring to children and families every single day.

We also had a very constructive meeting to discuss current challenges in the field and possible future improvements to the wheelchairs, based on our experiences in Zambia. These exchanges are incredibly valuable to continue improving mobility and quality of life for children.

Another great moment was meeting our colleagues from the Global Village Foundation Bali, sharing experiences and ideas from different parts of the world working towards the same goal.

🇮🇹 Una giornata davvero speciale da Wheelchairs for Kids a Perth 🇦🇺

Ieri, come rappresentanti di Blu Spring, abbiamo avuto il privilegio di visitare la straordinaria fabbrica di Wheelchairs for Kids.
Jeff ci ha accompagnati in una visita molto interessante dietro le quinte e, dopo centinaia di email scambiate negli anni, è stato davvero bello incontrare finalmente Don di persona.

Essendo la Giornata Nazionale del Volontariato, abbiamo anche partecipato al “morning tea” speciale dedicato ai volontari, per onorare il loro incredibile lavoro. Il loro impegno cambia la vita di migliaia di bambini nel mondo.

È stato inoltre un piacere incontrare Greg e il leggendario Brother Olly — Australian Senior of the Year 2025 e cofondatore di WFK.

Con un breve video e una presentazione abbiamo potuto mostrare l’impatto che queste sedie a rotelle stanno avendo in Zambia e la differenza concreta che fanno ogni giorno nella vita di tanti bambini e delle loro famiglie.

Abbiamo inoltre avuto un incontro molto costruttivo per discutere delle problematiche attuali riscontrate sul campo e di possibili miglioramenti futuri delle sedie a rotelle, basandoci sulla nostra esperienza in Zambia. Scambi come questi sono fondamentali per continuare a migliorare la mobilità e la qualità di vita dei bambini.

È stato anche molto bello incontrare i colleghi della Global Village Foundation Bali, condividendo esperienze e idee da diverse parti del mondo ma con lo stesso obiettivo comune.

Un enorme grazie a tutta la famiglia di WFK per l’accoglienza, la passione e l’impegno ❤️♿

The Blu Spring team travelled to Mansa in the Luapula Province in order to conduct an outreach in Collaboration with the Mayor of Mansa and the local coordinator of the Zambian Agency of Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD)

His Worship the Mayor of Mansa, Njikho Musuku states:

MOBILITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT!

Today in Mansa, we celebrated a wonderful partnership with Blu Spring, a Swiss NGO dedicated to empowering children living with disabilities.

Together, we handed over 30 Wheelchairs For Kids Australia wheelchairs to children between the ages of 4 and 17.

For these children, most of whom live with Cerebral Palsy, these wheelchairs are more than just equipment, they are life-changing tools for independence and dignity.

A Special Message to Parents
Please, do not keep children living with disabilities hidden at home. They have immense potential.

We encourage you to register your children with Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities so they can access the support and opportunities they deserve. No child should be left behind.

A huge thank you to Jules Adriaansen and the entire Blu Spring team for helping us build a more inclusive Mansa.
