The Blu Spring team travelled to Mansa in the Luapula Province in order to conduct an outreach in Collaboration with the Mayor of Mansa and the local coordinator of the Zambian Agency of Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD)

His Worship the Mayor of Mansa, Njikho Musuku states:

MOBILITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT!

Today in Mansa, we celebrated a wonderful partnership with Blu Spring, a Swiss NGO dedicated to empowering children living with disabilities.

Together, we handed over 30 Wheelchairs For Kids Australia wheelchairs to children between the ages of 4 and 17.

For these children, most of whom live with Cerebral Palsy, these wheelchairs are more than just equipment, they are life-changing tools for independence and dignity.

A Special Message to Parents
Please, do not keep children living with disabilities hidden at home. They have immense potential.

We encourage you to register your children with Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities so they can access the support and opportunities they deserve. No child should be left behind.

Across the Eastern and Southern Africa region, nearly 29 million children with disabilities live with increased risk of exclusion and limited access to essential services such as education, nutrition, and social protection. These compounded disadvantages make it harder for them to reach their full potential.

📊 Children with disabilities in Kenya are 9 percentage points more likely to experience multidimensional poverty than their peers without disabilities; meaning they face deeper, overlapping deprivations in areas like health, education, water, sanitation, and housing. This shows how disability and poverty are closely linked, not just by circumstance, but by systemic barriers that hold families back.

Disability shouldn’t determine a child’s future; but without support, it too often does.

A new container with wheelchairs is on its way to Zambia! 🇿🇲

We are incredibly grateful to WFKA for their continued trust and partnership. This container carries more than equipment; it carries mobility, dignity, and opportunity for children with disabilities across Zambia.

A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing volunteer teachers from nearby schools who helped sort, lift, organize, and pack everything with such care and dedication before they had to rush off to their day jobs and classrooms. You are part of every smile that will follow.

During the rainy season in Zambia, reaching children in rural communities becomes incredibly difficult. Roads can turn into rivers of mud. Rivers sometimes too large to cross due to flash floods. Entire areas become almost inaccessible.

Yet it is in these remote villages where children with disabilities often need our help the most. Many families have no access to proper mobility support, no transport, and limited medical services. If we don’t reach them, they remain isolated.

Despite the challenges, we continue. Because every child deserves mobility, dignity, and the chance to go to school, play, and be part of their community.

The road is difficult.�But turning back is not an option.

Grateful for an inspiring day of collaboration at UNICEF yesterday.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the BluSpring brainstorm session. It was truly energising to meet so many passionate people committed to creating impact.

Together, we focused on fundraising ideas and the creativity and insights shared will play a key role as BluSpring works toward its goal of delivering two wheelchairs per day to children with disabilities across Zambia. 🦽

As we go into a new year, we are looking back at the amazing impact we have made through provision of mobility devices to children with disabilities in 2025.

A snapshot of Blu Spring’s impact in 2025:
- Wheelchairs Distributed: 436
- Follow-up Assessments completed: 624
- Outreach trips conducted: 3
- Kilometres travelled by the team: >10.000km
- Number of Workshops/Presentations given: 3
- Members of local communities / healthcare workers trained: 8
- Registration of Blu Spring Zambia as an NGO in Zambia

Thanks to our partners in Zambia, especially Beit Cure Zambia and Pamodzi Ndi Ana, for providing irreplaceable support to reach the children all over Zambia who needed our help the most. These children and their families have now regained dignity, freedom, and independence. Additionally, many thanks to our donors and international supporting network, your support makes our work possible! 💪🏼

In Zambia, many children with disabilities are still left behind. not because they can’t learn or play, but because they lack the right support. At CURE, we believe every child deserves the chance to move, learn, and live with dignity. For children with Cerebral Palsy, mobility often comes not through surgery but through physiotherapy and assistive devices such as wheelchairs and standing frames.
These devices make a big difference helping children sit upright, engage with others, and explore their environment.

This Christmas, the Blu Spring team travelled to the Central- and Copperbelt-Provinces of Zambia for 3 days where they granted the gift of mobility to 72 children with disabilities through the provision of wheelchairs!

📍 NORTHERN & LUAPULA PROVINCES | NOVEMBER OUTREACH 🇿🇲

In November, the BluSpring team carried out an outreach across Northern and Luapula Provinces, focusing on children who had received wheelchairs more than three years ago, many of whom had not had a follow-up since.

Here’s what we achieved together:
🦽 41 wheelchair follow-ups
🧰 12 wheelchair assessments
👧🏽 7 new wheelchair fittings

Follow-ups were a priority to ensure children were still supported with safe, well-fitting mobility aids as they grow.

In Mpulungu, we also partnered with OM Lake Tanganyika to run a 3-day wheelchair workshop.
👥 10 participants started, 7 completed the full training
🦽 7 fittings and 15 follow-ups completed during the workshop
🙌 One participant went on to independently perform two wheelchair fittings after we left

This is what sustainable impact looks like: continued care, local capacity, and mobility that lasts.
