Training and Employment of Filipino Care Personnel

PINOY SWANS suggests a concept which is based on circular migration of qualified care personnel between the Philippines and Switzerland. During one year of intense training young Filipino women and men with a diploma in care or nursing studies are prepared for a paid internship of three years. The participants can thereby improve their professional know-how, align their practical skills with Swiss standards and acquire important intercultural competences as well as language skills. The program represents a win-win situation: Switzerland is able to recruit care personnel in order to meet the indicated lack of care personnel. Additionally, the Philippines will be able to raise the quality of care services because the trainees are obliged to return to their county work in a local hospital during at least one year. The basis of the concept considers the availability of a large pool of qualified and highly adaptive persons in the Philippines and the necessity to limit comprehensive local preparation programs to one (or a very few) countries for economic reasons.
