The World Jewellery Confederation, or CIBJO (Confédération International de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie des Diamants, Perles et Pierres), is the primary international jewellery, gemstones and precious metals association, representing the interests of all individuals, organisations and companies earning their livelihoods from the mining, processing, manufacturing and trade of these produc

ts. It is the oldest such organisation, having originally been established in 1926. The Confederation covers the entire jewellery, gemstone and precious metals sectors – vertically, from mine to marketplace, and horizontally within each of the component parts in the various production, manufacturing and trading centres. Its members are not individuals, but rather representative associations or commercial bodies. They include national and international trade organisations from more than 45 countries around the world and many of the international jewellery sector’s leading corporations and service providers. The Confederation is also the only organisation in the international diamond, gemstone and jewellery sectors to have received official consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. This enables it to advance programmes and goals of the UN within the industry, serving as a technical expert, adviser and consultant to governments and the UN Secretariat. It additionally is a member of the UN Global Compact and is committed to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri has been named a Grande Ufficiale (Grand Officer), the second-highest rank within the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, the most senior knighthood order of merit in the Italian Republic. Established in 1951, the order recognizes accomplishments in the fields of science, literature, arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities and for long and conspicuous service in civilian and military careers.

CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri and Vice President Kenneth Scarratt participated today in a seminar investigating the internationalisation of the Fei Cui Standard, moderated by Kent Wong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jewellers & Goldsmiths Association and the Industry Advisor to the GAHK Fei Cui Standard Project, as well as being Managing Director of the Chow Tai F**k Jewellery Group and a CIBJO Board Member. The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) will hold its 2026 annual congress in Vicenza, Italy, from September 4 to September 7. The milestone event has been declared the Centenary Congress, and it will mark 100 years since CIBJO’s establishment. It will take place at the Fiera di Vicenza, during the Vicenzaoro jewellery show. It will be hosted by the Italian Exhibition Group.

Prepared by the CIBJO Technology Committee, chaired by Stéphane Fischler, the report focuses exclusively on artificial intelligence, looking at ways in which the greater jewellery industry will be impacted, considering both the potential benefits and pitfalls, while dispelling some of the dystopian myths that have come to be associated with AI.
