Advancing international peace and security through nuclear abolition.

The Basel Peace Office is a joint project of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the University of Basel Sociology Seminary of the Department of Social Sciences, swisspeace, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Switzerland (IPPNW), the World Future Council (WFC), the Global Security Institute (GSI), the Middle Powers Initiative (MPI) and Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND). It was established to advance research, teaching and policy-development programs dedicated to international peace, conflict resolution and security to achieve the global abolition of nuclear weapons.

"Thou Shalt Love Thy Neighbour as Thyself", a poem by Judge Weeramantry which was recited by Neshan Gunasekera in the closing comments of the conference. The poem connects religious principles, including the 'Golden Rule' with principles of international law relating to peace and security.
