“Pro Fungi” is building “Central dos Cogumelos”: The world’s first mushroom “museum”, showing how fungi are highly underestimated in their capacity to help us solve a broad range of problems. The non-profit association “Pro Fungi” was founded in 2023 in Switzerland and Brazil. “Pro Fungi” is creating “Central dos Cogumelos”, a cultural center dedicated to mushrooms, in the historic building it acq
uired close to other cultural centers and museums in one of Rio de Janeiro's vibrant neighborhoods. It will show the public, in engaging ways, how fungi are highly underestimated in their capacity to help us solve a broad range of environmental problems. From feeding us, to curing physical and mental health problems, to replacing toxic packaging and construction materials. From cleaning up oil and radioactive spills, to replacing leather, meat, and even electric car batteries with biodegradable fungi products, to name just a few. In addition to the physical center, we’ll create a virtual platform to share the rapidly growing mushroom knowledge between Brazil, Switzerland, the USA and everywhere else in the world. With advice and ideas? With connections to people, foundations, institutions, companies, etc. who might have money and/or advice?
