BASAID is a NGO that supports projects in agriculture, water and sanitation, healthcare and education

BASAID – Volunteers for a fairer world 🌍

BASAID is a Swiss volunteer-driven NGO supporting small, sustainable projects that improve lives in developing countries. We focus on four key areas:

💧 Water & Sanitation – clean water and hygiene for healthier communities.

🌱 Agriculture & Livelihoods – helping families grow food and income sustainably.

🏥 Healthcare – access to essential medical care and prevention.

📚 Education & Empowerment – learning opportunities for children and women. Every year, BASAID funds around 30 projects led by trusted local partners in Africa, Asia, and Latin America — with less than 6 % administrative costs. The majority of our funds come from our members and are often matched by Novartis contributions. We also hold an annual Bazaar and rely on legacies and special donations.

💙 “The problem isn’t that there are no doctors — it’s that families can’t afford to stay in Lima.”

When little Eysel began vomiting and losing strength, her mother Elvia feared the worst. After weeks of hospital visits and uncertainty, doctors in Lima discovered a brain tumor.

Two surgeries and thirty rounds of radiotherapy followed. Through it all, Elvia never left her daughter’s side — but far from home, she had nowhere to stay.

At Albergue Inspira, they found safety, meals, and emotional support during this long and difficult journey.

💙 We’re halfway there — thank you for helping us bring hope to Peru!

Together, we’ve raised 10,000 CHF / 12,000 USD toward our goal of 18,000 CHF / 22,000 USD to support children and families staying at Albergue Inspira in Lima.

🌟 Fritzi’s journey:
She traveled from Ayacucho with her baby, Marielise, born with a cleft lip and other conditions. At Albergue Inspira, they found more than a bed — they found care, stability, and the strength to keep going through surgeries and recovery.

The project will ensure no Peruvian child battling cancer abandons clinical treatment due to family economic hardship by supporting 30 kids and a family member with meals, shelter, and hospital transportation so they can travel from remote regions to Lima for life-saving treatments.
