THE BALANCE BETWEEN DELIVERANCE AND DISCIPLINE
(A traveling ministry series)

Let me tell you an interesting experience of my life as a traveling minister.
Several years ago, I used to suffer a lot on my trips and this had nothing to do with how I was treated or my financial condition. It was actually my stomach. I had a very sensitive stomach. If I eat anything a little out of the regular I will start stooling.

So I had to do something about it. First I turned to medication. I will always carry sachets of tetracycline and flagyl with me on my trips. Then I dare not eat on the way. If I must eat it would be either bread or sausage. Something that can hold my tummy from running. I can tell you it was a terrible experience. This continued for years. Then one day it struck me. This is not just a health challenge. This is an affliction. How can a traveling minister have a sensitive stomach. When I am on mission trips, the first thing I use in the morning was the medicine. When it's time to leave for my meeting venue I must use the medicine. It got so bad that I knew at some point that the medicine was gradually failing, somehow my body had developed a resistance to the medicine. At that point I knew I had to do something about it.

I took it to the Lord in prayer and I was prompted to speak to my body. I have learnt to speak to my body on this job. The demands of our work leaves little or no space for a weak or sick body. For instance, if you take international trips regularly you will understand what I am talking about. It's not for the weak. Airport logistics is not for those that are not fit. You can't be sick when you are traveling. Especially if you are not flying first or business class. You are on your own. If you are taking a direct flight you could survive but God bless you that you have to use connecting flights, you will know that traveling is not as pleasurable as many see it.

Back to my story. I recognized that my situation was an affliction. A limitation that the enemy wants to put in my life to tamper with my effectiveness as a traveling minister. At that point, I put into practice the scriptures, submit to the Lord, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Oh I turned to affliction, and addressed it, it can no longer hide, I said you sensitive stomach condition I rebuke you as a messenger of the gospel. Leave my body now!

Friends, God took care of it and I didn't realize on time. Do you know I went for months before I remember that I had not had the cause to buy the medicines or store them on me for my trips? God gave me a new stomach. What a deliverance! You can't imagine the fear I lived with for years because of my stomach situation then. I wasn't afraid of demons but I feared that my stomach would trouble me in a meeting and mess up my meeting and suddenly all that was gone!

Now let me put a balance here. God delivered me from affliction and I have been able to sustain it by some form of discipline on my part. It is important that a minister, now especially a traveling minister must be disciplined with food. You cannot be a glutton. Many people are so nice when they are hosting you as a mark of honour they would put before you varieties. They don't know which one you would like more or how much of that you can eat, so they prepare a table before you! Don't jump into the food and start consuming them as if that would be your last. Eat moderately. Eat to have strength to be a blessing not to block the flow of the Spirit. You should know that when the flesh is so satisfied the spirit is weakened. To be spiritually alert you have to put control on your appetites. Not just food alone. All appetites.

I have heard stories of ministers who didn't handle their appetite for food well. Some have happened right in my presence. They are not good stories at all. As a matter of discipline, if I must eat when I am traveling , I eat very light, maybe a snack. Whether local or international trips. You should pay more attention to this if you do international travels. Let me share this before I go on. Usually the first thing I need when I arrive for my meetings would be some food. This is because I usually don't eat or eat very light when I am traveling. It's just a discipline. Yes I have been delivered from a sensitive stomach but I don't tempt God. There are things you don't eat when you know you can't get a bathroom for a few hours. So when I get to meetings where my hosts are insensitive or just ignorant I suffer. Well let's say I suffered, because that's not the situation now.

In those days I used to worry a lot about how people will feel about me of I make my own food arrangements while they are hosting me. Having been in ministry for many, many years I now worry about myself. I take care of myself so that I can be effective for ministry. I don't get annoyed or bittered with them. I just take care of myself and the men that travel with me, and everyone is happy. No grudges.

I think it was sometimes last year I was traveling out of the country. My flight was in the afternoon and as usual I had not eaten anything. So close to take off time I felt I should have a snack to hold my stomach till we would be served food on the plane. It was going to be a long flight. While at it I saw a young man eating as if that would be his last . We were traveling together. What!!! I was surprised. This guy are a lot of swallow and vegetables and stuffs. Well you can say certain things are personal and I agree but it's just good to put some discipline to whatever we do.

By principle, I don't like frequent use of the bathroom on the plane, especially when you are not in first/business class. I can count how many times have used the bathroom on a plane. And at those times, it was only once and it was to urinate. When you fly economy and your seat is very far from the toilet , you will have to travel to toilet each time you are pressed. I have seen serious queue on flights to use the bathroom. It's not a good sight.

People get on flights and start eating everything. It's almost like they threw away caution. They would eat so much before we set out, they get on the plane and start eating again. They are the ones eating but I am the one afraid for them. I know soon enough nature is going to call. Personally I don't find it convenient to be going up and down to use the bathroom. So I discipline myself with food when I am traveling. I only had cause to urinate when we are on very long flights. I use the bathroom before we take off and once again if my flight is 7 hours and more. A traveling minister ought to be disciplined with their stomach and appetites. Apostle Paul, a fellow travelling minister said our moderation must be known to all. (Phil. 4:5). He also said we should not use our liberty as licence/ occassion to the flesh.( Gal. 5:13)
Other people can do things anyhow but believers and especially ministers of the gospel must learn to be disciplined in all things. If God delivers you from something, don't walk back into bo***ge!

I hope this speaks to you. Shalom!!!

DON'T IGNORE YOUR WEAKNESS

"Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: four our vines have tender grapes" (Songs of Solomon 2:15)

The natural and ready response to weaknesses for many is to ignore. How dangerous! You don't discover naked fire in your house and ignore it. You will normally do something about it. Fire must be quenched in order to prevent disaster. Same for weaknesses. They must not be ignored but handled.

A lot of people give lame excuses about their weakness and that's why we are in a mess now in many quarters.
When you discover any weakness in your life, deal with it before it deals with you. Stop saying, this is me, i cannot change. You can change! You have changed in many ways. Let me prove it to you. When you were a baby, you stayed mostly with your parents and caregivers. You were inseperable from them. You loved it. Their presence, their care, the attention and all of it.

Then it was time to go to school. You were suddenly removed from the loving arms of your parents and caregivers and surrendered to total strangers. You didn't like it , you cried, you kicked, you threw tantrums, but finally you adjusted to your new reality. You accepted change. You overcame that perpetual attachment to your parents and caregivers. That was your weakness at that point but you overcame.

All your life, you have repeated that inevitable step from season to season. To deal with weaknesses you must face the reality of its implication. If you chose to stay at home and refused to go to school, you won't be where you are today. Your parents helped you deal with a weakness, they showed you how to deal with weaknesses. You have followed in that step because you knew it was necessary.

You are still harbouring weaknesses in areas you have not identified its danger. Dealing with weaknesses hinge on your understanding of its consequences. Weaknesses range from trivial to crucial. None can be ignored. Some weaknesses can be handled on a personal level, while some require the help of others. Whatever may be the case, don't ignore a weakness because it has capacity to grow and expand.

Take for instance, laziness. It can start from little things, but trust me, if its not dealt with, it will graduate to serious things. Laziness can start with reluctance from getting out of the bed in the morning to meeting up with deadliness at work. Laziness work hand-in-hand with procastinastion. When you allow procastination, it will follow you into very important things in life.

To deal with weaknesses on a personal level, you must understand that we are creations of habits. We handle habits with habits. Next to this is outsourcing for help from others. There are weaknesses we can overcome on our own, by becoming more focused and intentional about getting rid of them. However there are weaknesses that will require the involvement of others to get rid of.

We can draw wisdom from our upbringing. God planted our parents and guardians around us to help us deal with our natural weaknesses. Sometimes spiritual laziness. i remember now as an adult, how my parents helped me deal with disorderliness. I couldn't be responsible with anything. I was really disorganized. So they helped me keep my stuffs. Copies of forms i filled, passport photographs, applications, birth certificate, testimonials, results, passbook and any other important things. These things were kept in certain places.

They ensured i picked things from these places and returned them to exact places all through my growing up years. Today, i have maintained the same practice, everything has a place. Parents stop saying, that's the way my child is, you must insist for a change where it is necessary and help them become better. Stop raising irresponsible individuals.

A lot of wastes have happened simply because of a weakness or weaknesses. Oh i just forget. i cant just seem to remember things. I just can't keep things. Oh i am just bad with money. I can't just zip up. Women are my weakness. I just can't commit. I am restless. The list is endless. No! You are not helpless, you are not just willing to change. If you are willing to change, you will employ help. People have lost their lives, fortunes, great reputation, flourishing business, lifetime opportunities, jobs and so on, just because of a weakness.

Finally, i have discovered that Great people, men and women that are gifted and billed for greatness, often miss out on greatness or fall from grace to grass because they ignored their weakness. Don't be blinded by your gifted-ness and ignore your weakness. Little foxes spoil the vine! Refuse to join the long line of men and women who allowed their weakness make them disappoint destiny. Deal with your weakness today!!!

We are all ,a work in progress. Allow the Holy Spirit take care of your weakness. Do not resist the path to change. Your difficult boss, Strict Spouse, No nonsense parent, Confrontational pastor, Forthright colleague or Unreasonable neighbour may all be the avenue through which your change is being forged. Stop saying, i cannot change. Change is still only constant thing in life. God sends us help so that our negative habits and character does not destroy the glorious future ahead of us!

Don't ignore your weakness...deal with it! My name is Femi Adebayo and i just want to encourage a generation!

Shalom!

CONCERNING PERSECUTION...

So remember what i taught you, that a servant isn't superior to his master. And since they persecuted me, they will also persecute you". (John 15:20 TPT)
"But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now". (Gal. 4:29 KJV)

The Lord Jesus spoke about the coming persecution before he left back for glory.
He told his disciples that they will be persecuted. This men's the Church will be persecuted. The leaders will be persecuted. The message will be persecuted. Our faith will be persecuted. All of us will be persecuted.

The most delicate part of that persecution is the one that the Lord spoke about in John 16:2- "...the time cometh , that whosoever killeth you will think he doeth God service".

Its been thousands of years and many centuries now since those words proceeded from the mouth of the Lord Jesus.
History has it that as a result of persecution, they have beheaded and imprisoned the early apostles of the early church and the disciples. This was a terrible season of persecution in history. The Bible says , And at that time there was GREAT PERSECUTION against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all SCATTERED ABROAD throughout the regions of judea and samaria, except the Apostles.(Acts 8:1 KJV)

It is no news that the church in Nigeria is under heavy persecution. It is also very easy to look at things from the surface and conclude on the surface. However, for those that are discerning, they can see behind the scenes. Satan has only one agenda to pull down the church in Nigeria and around the world. While not subscribing to all the mess in the pulpit, we are also mindful of the bigger agenda. Satan wants the baby to be thrown away with the bath water.
There is a bigger agenda. All the stories we are hearing are no mere coincidences. Whether the ones that are true and the ones that are not true. The mission is one, divide and rule. Satan is doing all in His power to discredit the church of Jesus Christ. He has done that in various places. Unfortunately many unsuspecting believers are siding in with the enemy.

i have watched with great amazement the zeal of many believers in passing comments hastily online with serious emotions and great logic. Sometimes being right is not the same as being spiritual. We should not just be seeking to be right, we should also seek to understand seasons. If many people had lived in bible days, they would have misinterpreted the events, just as some still look at the accounts from the angle of letters to draw conclusions.

Can you discern the times we are living in? Can you see the agenda of the wicked? The enemy is reinventing his strategy. He is no longer cutting Apostles heads physically, however he is doing worse than that. He is now after the overall reputation of the church. You ultimately believe what you hear consistently. The enemy is intentional about bombarding us with unpleasant things carried out not by a majority but a minority, in order to generalize things.

Don't get carried away by the dispensation of secularism. A lot of people all over the world are now more aware of information than ever before. More people are now presented with opportunities to be learned and there is nothing wrong with that, but it comes with a challenge.

This is obviously bringing a kind of knowledge that is against the knowledge of God. When not handled well, academic knowledge or what we call information can be dangerous as it has a subtle way with which it positions itself against the knowledge of God on some occassions.

If we don't start looking at what is going on as the greatest persecution ever, we will wake up one day and realize that our slumber has done the unimaginable. It is important that we respond to this matter according to the Lord's prescription.
History is repeating itself, many times when people suddenly get caught up in a fight for justice or for whatever, unknown to them and well planted inside the fight are people with ulterior motives and hidden agenda. On many occassions, the victims of the cross fire are usually the innocent and those with zeal without knowledge.

i am for righteousness, justice, order, fair play, i get the angle where we all long for a purer spiritual climate, where trust will not be betrayed, where those that are meant to protect us will truly protect us...but i am also not ignorant of the devices of the enemy, lest he takes advantage of us.

Let us rise to the occassion. Its time to watch and pray! The Lord Jesus instructed concerning that which was coming, that when we see these things, we should IN PATIENCE POSSESS OUR SOULS (luke 21:19). Don't see things and jump into them. Don't allow impatience lure into sin. Don't react in the flesh. Don't judge anything before its time.

The devil likes to hide behind legitimacy, it only takes the spiritual and the discerning to call him out to deal with him. The Lord Jesus was meant to die for the sins of man to redeem man back to the state of glory. That was the reason Jesus was born. Jesus kept talking about it as the period was approaching, but peter would not have it.

How can a young man die? And the program of God, Jesus had to die. Peter began to rebuke Jesus , you don't talk like that. Its not proper. Its not logical. It does not make sense. You are helping many people here. Why would you die? Jesus looked him straight in the eye, " Get out of my way ,you Satan! You are an offense to me because your thoughts are only filled with MAN'S VIEWPOINTS and not with the ways of God" (Matt. 16:23-34 TPT)

A word of comfort to those that have been very worried, concerned or discouraged. Pla take comfort in the words of Jesus in Luke 21:17- " And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake". Those days are here. Kindly think on these things!

PASTORS AND MISSIONARIES SERIES

(PLEASE READ WITH AN OPEN HEART)

And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.

Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.

Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.
For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. (1 Sam. 30:21-24)

The concept of Missions and Church ministry is like the concept of those that go to battle and those that tarry by the stuff.

You cannot go to battle and leave your stuff behind unguarded!

So going to battle is important because you want to increase your stuff by gathering the spoil, however you cannot have what we call increase if by the time you bring back you spoil you have no stuff left.

I have watched the rivalry of Missionaries and Pastors for a very long time. Mission is very important we have to win souls, but when you win the soul where do you put them in there is no church.

The cycle of soul winning is not complete until those souls are discipled and they in turn rise up to win souls. The local church is very important to end time harvest and that is why God brought about the church movement.

I know here and there some pastors may be losing sight of that but that does not change the purpose of the church. Let us not see all activities in church as waste, no it's not, souls within need to be cared for just like the souls outside. If we don't have church anymore, who will finance missions. There is no organization out there that can mobilize support for missions like the church. Not one!

Mission Agencies ought to work closely with churches to fund missionaries. Both those that are in the rural areas and those that are in special or supporting ministries. Missionaries are not only those in villages(though they should be more because usually we don't have enough personnel reaching out to villages), but those in urban areas are targeting souls, prostitutes, lost teenagers, erring children, drug users, prisoners and a lot more.

I believe we should pray for pastors that God will fill them with wisdom and give them a special heart for missions in the disbursement of resources. Pastors have to manage a lot of things and those things are very important. There are churches with ventures and those ventures bring the money they use to run everything. Those ventures have to be managed. Usually those on the field don't know much about management because they don't have structures or systems yet,but if you ever run an organization you will realize how demanding things can be .

Should churches do more about supporting/funding missions? Of course ,yes! However it is not at the expense of losing the church. There is no other place to put souls that are won into the kingdom but the church. The church must continue to thrive just as we expect missions to thrive.

The reason is simple, ...as his part is that goeth down to the battle,so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike"
Each shall receive a reward for their duty. This reward shall be alike. You know why? The cycle of soul winning contains a lot of people. Those who went physically to win the soul, those who prayed for them, those who gave of their resources to them and those that provided one thing or the other. If you know how spiritual things work, you will understand this rule.

Churches ought to increase in their commitment to missions and missionaries ought to work more in humility and understanding of purpose as they engage churches the more in missions. Missionaries are not superior to pastors, just as pastors are not superior to missionaries. We must deploy mutual respect for one another, because every duty in the kingdom is important. Everything is connected.

In conclusion I will urge missionaries to stop blaming pastors for your condition. A lot of missionaries are not doing missions the right way. Hence they face a lot of challenges. You are to look for more effective ways to work with pastors. You are to see their roles and work as complementary. They are not wasting resources please, the souls in their care ought to be nurtured. Pastors should also look for creative ways to get more involved in missions. We need you. Your generous support to those on the field will go a long way to help the assignment. Remember Paul has to plant, Apollos has to water, and then God will bring the increase! ( 1 Cor. 3:6)

I hope this has blessed you. Shalom!

THE MAKING OF MINISTRY GIFTS
"That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:17)

A lot has been said about how Generals are raised. A lot more has been assumed about it. If we truly want to see Generals emerge , we must go beyond speculation and assumption to dig out what really works.

When it comes to spiritual training, where to look is scriptures. In addition to this we can look at parallel concepts in the natural just to gain a healthy and balanced perspective.

The training of a general is very thorough. There is fundamental training which happens over a given period of time and sincerely that cannot be tampered with in any way.

After a careful study of scriptures, looking at various scenarios of leadership development and evolution, i have come to a conclusion ( this is not a rule, but an observation) that it will take at the least three to four years(it can be more) for anyone willing to learn the ropes of what is considered as ministry and wanting to do it at the highest possible level( this applies only when we assume the individual is learning under the right circumstances).

Nothing below this can produce a General. The only allowance here will be about God's sovereignty, where a minister can evolve through an order that is superior to existing order and this would clearly show.

The Lord Jesus is God Himself from heaven, he did three and half years with his disciples before they could be released to continue his ministry. Then he took another 40 days after his resurrection to teach them thoroughly. You will agree the Bible has a number of things to say about Jesus that makes him a perfect example for everything.

He is the captain of our salvation. He is the completely obedient one. In Him are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He has been made unto us the wisdom and power of God.
With all these we can safely conclude that Jesus had a perfect leadership pattern and philosophy that is superior to all. If Jesus needed about 4 years to completely pour himself into his disciples, then i can conclude that it takes at least 4 years to learn and follow before any significant thing can be born or transferred.

i recently shared the same platform with Pastor Debola Deji-Kurumi, and she shared her opinion on this same subject. She asserted that it will take at least five years to be able to fully replicate their leadership model in anyone willing to pursue their purpose and destiny.

i read in God's General the work relationship between A.A. Allen and R.W Schambach, this duo worked together for 4 years before Schambach moved on to start his evangelist ministry. No doubts, Schambach had Allen's faith and boldness. Generals produce Generals, but it never happens overnight!

Papa & Mama Copeland were students at Oral Roberts University. They learnt about faith and the Supernatural from ORU. Then Kenneth Copeland became Oral Roberts driver and then his pilot. These would have taken nothing less than 5 years and there is no telling the amount of transfer of grace, anointing, spirit between Late Oral Roberts and Papa Copeland.

Apart from classic examples of scriptures , there abound loads of contemporary examples of the making of Ministry gifts. It is absolutely clear that it takes time to reproduce the kind of grace, stamina, faith and stature that we see in one generation in another.
Little wonder the kind of leaders we have today. As much as everyone ordained into leadership will lead in their generation, the quality of leadership will be largely dependent on the process of evolution. If it takes 20 mins to boil rice and you decide to do yours in ten minutes, you would have cooked rice but you can be sure it won't be a well cooked rice. If you look at it, it will look like cooked rice but it is in the taste that you will tell the difference.

The making of ministry gifts is not achieved with a snap of the finger. It is a process that demands great effort and time. God will deliberately plant you with people and in places that are connected to your future The upcoming generation will need to learn to take it easy. As much as clock is ticking, we also have to ensure that we are truly building capacity for what is ahead. We will continue from here shortly. My name is Femi Adebayo and i am on a mission to encourage a generation! Shalom!!!
