The Black Institute extends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, friends, and fans of the legendary Peabo Bryson.
His voice carried love, grace, and soul across generations. Through his timeless music, he gave the world songs that became part of our memories, our celebrations, and our lives.
Peabo Bryson’s gift was more than music. It was legacy. It was excellence. It was the sound of Black artistry reaching the world with power and beauty.
We honor his life, his voice, and the joy he gave to so many.
Rest in power, Peabo Bryson.

Greeting Warriors,
It is very important that you take part in our KNOW YOUR RIGHTS training hosted by The Black Institute alongside New Sanctuary Coalition this Saturday, May 9, 2026.
This training will provide important steps every person should know when it comes to encounters with federal police, including ICE. Across many spaces, we continue to hear real concern, fear, and questions from our community.
Collectively, we can learn how to protect ourselves, our families, our workers, and our communities through knowledge and preparation.
Please do not take this lightly.
Event Details:
Saturday, May 9, 2026
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Salem Missionary Baptist Church
305 East 21st Street, Brooklyn, NY 11226
Corner of Albemarle Road
All are welcome.

Remember, knowledge is power. Humans keep making survival dependent on attending workshops inside church basements and community halls, but thankfully communities still show up for each other.

You are building a business in a system that was not built for you.
You already know the barriers:
• Limited access to capital
• Fewer contract opportunities
• Lack of visibility
• Networks that stay closed

TBI Warrior changes that.

You step into a network built for Minority Business Enterprises. You connect with leaders, advocates, and decision makers who move resources and influence.

What you gain:
• Visibility on The Black Institute website for one full year
• Direct access to a trusted network across NYC
• Opportunities to be highlighted, promoted, and supported
• A space to push for capital, contracts, and policy change

This is not passive membership. This is positioning.

Right now, policies are being shaped. Funding is being decided. Contracts are being awarded. If you are not in the room, you are being left out.

TBI Warriors stay in the room.

You invest in your business. You invest in your community. You help build power that lasts.

Yesterday, our Executive Director Tuulikki Robertson stood alongside fellow nonprofits and the New York State Black Legislators Task Force with one clear demand . Approve $90 million for the organizations doing the work every single day.
This funding matters because:
• We rely on community groups first. They respond faster than systems. They know the people. They stay when others leave.
• We see the gaps. Food access. Housing support. Youth programs. Legal services. These organizations fill them daily.
• We cannot expect results without investment. Groups serving thousands operate on limited budgets while demand keeps rising.
• We want safer communities. That starts with prevention. Jobs. Education. Support services. Not just enforcement.
• You already pay for the consequences. Emergency response, incarceration, and crisis services cost more than prevention.
• We deserve equity. Communities of color receive less funding while facing higher need. That has to change.
$90 million is not extra. It is overdue. It is an investment in stability, safety, and real outcomes.
Fund the work. Support the people. Build stronger communities.

Hi Community Leaders and Members,
We urge you to take a moment to reflect on how you can be part of a real movement—one that amplifies voices and drives change on the issues our communities face every day: Education, Environment, Economics, and Immigration.
At The Black Institute, we’re more than just a think tank—we take action. We’re looking for strong, passionate voices who are ready to see and make real change.
Join us, get involved, and become a visible part of this movement. We’re also offering individuals the opportunity to be featured on our website for one year.
Let’s build power and create change—together.

When you join, you help sustain the work of The Black Institute across four major issues.
