Ellie came to Come Back Ranch Animal Sanctuary last April. She was very thin and had a lot of cuts and scars from her harnesses that did not have padding. She was used very hard and worked for the Amish in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. They retired her and were sending her to slaughter when she was rescued. So many of these mules end up that way it is very sad. She worked a long hard life now she is here to retire and relax. Unfortunately, she has a very low immune system and flies attack her and we have done everything we can to help prevent that but she still gets summer sores. The vet came yesterday and checked her and said she gained 45 pounds since June which is amazing. He says sheâ at a pretty good weight right now. She gained even more weight between April and June. At the least she has gained over 100 pounds total. He said sheâs in good shape. We just have to put her on medicine to help build her immune system system. She had summer sores in her eyes that are now 100% healed. Ellie is the sweetest mule. She now helps our veterans heal in our therapeutic horse/mule program and teachers them so much. She is definitely a gentle giant and we love her and appreciate her gentleness. If you would like to help support Ellieâs meds, please let us know.
