Safe Haven 2026 is just around the corner! Join us on May 21st at Tribeca 360 as we celebrate the law firms and advocates whose pro bono service helps secure safety and freedom for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants.

In the face of the most hostile immigration climate in decades, Immigration Equality remains on the frontlines — providing free legal representation, fighting unjust policies, and ensuring that LGBTQ and HIV-positive people fleeing persecution still have a path to safety. Your support keeps that work going.

See you there! Get tickets at imeq.org/safehaven26.

A few months ago, Immigration Equality was invited by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to participate in the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review. Our delegation was there to advocate for greater awareness and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ refugees in the global refugee protection system. Thank you, Alisa, for representing us and taking our mission to Geneva last year!

Happy holidays, everyone! I’m Al, a former client of Immigration Equality.

I’m an Indigenous, q***r, non-binary refugee and the founder of Automic Gold, a fine jewelry company I started in 2011. I came to the U.S. in 2009 seeking safety and freedom. I had no money, no connections, and didn’t speak English.

I left Russia--a country where being q***r isn’t just unsafe, it is treated like a crime.

Immigration Equality fought for me with dignity, respect, and compassion when I needed it most. That support changed my life.

Today, I’m a U.S. citizen, a business owner, and living openly as a q***r, nonbinary person — giving back to the community that helped me stand again.

✨ All donations are matched up to $30,000 through the end of 2025 ✨

This Intersex Awareness Week we show up because bodily autonomy is universal. Intersex people have the same right as everyone else to make informed choices about their own bodies — without shame, stigma, or discrimination. This week, spread intersex visibility and demand bodily autonomy for everyone.💛💜

Happy International Le***an Day! 🌈

Shirley and Jay fell in love in 1986—long before marriage equality.
“It was love at first sight,” Shirley said.
They wrote letters across oceans and made $1.89-a-minute phone calls, holding onto love even when U.S. law refused to recognize their relationship.

It took 28 years before they could marry and nine more before Shirley got her green card. Through it all, Immigration Equality fought for them to stay together, and we won!

Today, they’re still in love, safe, and celebrating life as new grandparents.
