Today, Immigration Equality joined a coalition of immigrant and LGBTQ organizations in filing a federal lawsuit challenging the government’s failure to provide asylum seekers with the due process they are entitled to.

For LGBTQ immigrants seeking safety in the United States, the asylum process can be the difference between safety and being sent back to persecution. Yet a new Trump administration rule is creating unacceptable barriers and delays for people trying to access protection.

At Immigration Equality, we see every day what is at stake when asylum seekers are denied their legal right to have their cases heard. Our legal team represents LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants navigating an increasingly hostile immigration system, and we are proud to stand with our partners in demanding a fair process.

This rule is illegal. This lawsuit is about a basic principle: people seeking asylum deserve the opportunity— and have a legal right—to be heard.

We march because visibility matters. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Last NYC Pride, our former client Jude shared why showing up matters: when LGBTQ immigrants see us in the streets, they can learn that they are not alone—and that support is available.

Every year, Immigration Equality brings together staff, former clients, their loved ones, impacted community members, and allies to march at NYC Pride in support of LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants.

Pride is a celebration of our community, but it’s also a reminder of why we keep showing up, making space, and fighting for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants to live safely, freely, and with dignity.

🚨 New report: LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers are being deported to countries where they face persecution, detention, torture, and death, even when many of them have already secured lasting protection in the United States.

Delivered to Danger: How the Trump Administration's Third-Country Agreements Threaten the Lives of LGBTQ Refugees and Asylum Seekers documents the stories of LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers who escaped horrific violence only to be sent into new danger through the administration's expanding use of third-country deportations and so-called "safe third country" agreements.

A few months ago, Immigration Equality was invited by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to participate in the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review. Our delegation was there to advocate for greater awareness and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ refugees in the global refugee protection system. Thank you, Alisa, for representing us and taking our mission to Geneva last year!
