The young people at RiverTracks have been working hard the past few weeks carving and preparing handmade chopping boards for their stall at the Murwillumbah Youth Fest 2026 next Sunday 19th April! The boards are made from repurposed Camphor laurel and the crew have been applying a range of different practical skills to bring their ideas to life.

The Murbah Youth Fest runs from 10am - 4pm next Sunday 19th April at Knox Park in Murwillumbah and will be full of young people showcasing their crafts, skills and talents.

If you’re not already, come on down to Knox Park for a lovely day full of community, creativity and local youth doing great things - and maybe even head home with a beautiful new chopping board!

After the young people spend the morning focused on their practical projects at the Murwillumbah Community Garden, the afternoons shift gears.

We head out to local creeks around the Caldera, giving them space to move, explore and have fun together in a supported environment. There is no shortage of beautiful spots!

They finish the day content and tired after putting in the work and spending quality time in nature with each other.

We have welcomed a few new faces over the past month, and everyone’s been getting stuck in with various projects at the Murwillumbah Community Garden!

The boys jumped into everything, securing timber edging, laying bricks, and even designing and carving their own wooden utensils. Lots of practical skills, teamwork and confidence building in the making. Another great week!

RiverTracks has capacity for more young people to join and take advantage of trade skills building workshops like seen here.

RiverTracks has helped rejuvenate the Murwillumbah Community Garden under the invaluable support and guidance of Pam. The young people have got stuck in and contributed to a community asset whilst learning valuable skills in the process.

We work with high school and post high school youth aged from 12 to 20 years old. The program is free of charge and there are multiple levels of support available to families and their young people.

If your young person is struggling with school attendance or wants to build valuable trade and life skills, please get in touch with program manager, Chris.

Thanks Tweed Valley Weekly for the article and thanks Northern Rivers Community Foundation for the funding to help support this new section of our valuable local youth service.

RiverTracks had a big year of building in 2025. We now are more versatile and more adaptable to the needs of young people who are disengaged with school or facing significant challenges in the Northern Rivers.

Moving into 2026, we have capacity to help more young people than ever before. If you want to make a referral or find out more about how RiverTracks can help please contact Christopher at [email protected]

The past couple months the talented young people at RiverTracks have been donating their time and energy to help restore a local sugar glider habitat in Murwillumbah. Under the careful and knowledgeable guidance of Bev, Landcare and The Tweed Shire Council, RiverTracks has learned fundamental principles to native rehab and landcare and participated in regeneration that will benefit future generations of Murbah locals.

RiverTracks is a charity organisation that builds resilience and confidence in young people in the Tweed region by working with positive community initiatives such as this Sugar Glider habitat rehabilitation.

All donations to RiverTracks over $2 are tax deductible!

The young people at RiverTracks collaborated with Murwillumbah SES to run a workshop for other school kids on how to correctly sandbag in the event of a flood or disaster. Chris from the SES taught RiverTracks the importance of correct technique for sandbagging. The next day RiverTracks and SES ran a workshop for Mission Possible day of preparedness at the Murwillumbah Community Centre. RiverTracks will now be able to assist the SES in disaster events allowing for SES personnel to distribute their resources to rescuing people!

Thanks to NSW Gov for funding important programs that help young people connect to community in this way!
