A Bittersweet Farewell
I'm saddened by the cessation of the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Centre East Africa (YALI RLC EA), yet reflecting on the incredible impact this program has had on our lives fills me with even more zeal for the true definition of "This is Africa, and Africa is our business."
Over the past few years, this transformative leadership program has touched the lives of 6,122 young people between the ages of 18 and 35, including mine. I'm honored to have been part of this remarkable community, and I'm grateful for the experiences, connections, and growth that this program has provided.
Although the closure of USAID funding has brought an end to this chapter, I want to celebrate the lasting legacy of this program. The skills, knowledge, and networks we've gained as African youths, especially from East and Central Africa, will continue to inspire and empower us to make a difference in our communities.
To my fellow alumni, Josué Yassarandji , Opportun Georges Molito-kette , Mitch Michael Ahumuza, Alesi Majorine, Ali Mohamed Ali, Nakaweesi Stella, etc, I challenge us to continue the work of YALI RLC East Africa within our respective chapters. We have the skills, passion, and capability to carry on the program's mission. Let's create a ripple effect of positive change in our communities by:
Staying connected: Let's keep in touch and support one another on our journeys by attending chapter events and Embassy events.
Sharing our experiences: Let's share our stories, successes, and challenges to inspire and motivate other young Africans who missed this opportunity.
Collaborating on projects: Let's work together on initiatives that align with the program's goals and values.
Mentoring others: Let's share our knowledge and expertise with others who are looking to make a difference.
By continuing the work of YALI RLC East Africa, we can ensure that the program's impact is felt for years to come.
Thank you to the entire YALI RLC.
