Mission
Contribuer à la reconstruction des cœurs et vies brisées des victimes des conflits armés dans la région des Grands Lacs Africains en leur donnant l’espoir de devenir eux-mêmes, capables de travailler pour se prendre en charge loin des conflits armés et violences. OBJECTIFS :
- Redynamiser les activates des organisations de pays de grands lacs africains,
- Créer un lieu de collaboration entre les différentes Organisations,
- Chercher les fonds pour soutenir les activités des organisations de pays de grands lacs,
- Orienter le fond selon les objectifs de chaque organisation. Résultats attendus
- (1) 200 enfants orphelins qui ont eu l’accès à l’école ont amélioré leurs connaissances dans l’écriture/lecture et calcul ;
- (2) 30 séances de formations sur la paix ont eu dans les villages/zones et leurs bénéficiaires se sont impliqués dans la promotion des actions de paix ;
- (3) 180 des femmes/filles survivantes des violences se*****es assistées se prennent en charge à partir de leurs activités génératrices de revenus. BREF SUR LES ORGANISATIONS DES PAYS DE GRANDS LACS
WOMEN FUTURE LIFE : Vise à contribuer à l’amélioration des conditions socio-économiques, culturelles et professionnelles des enfants, femmes, jeunes et familles survivants des crises humanitaires et/ou des conflits armés et catastrophes naturelles en République Démocratique du Congo dans la perspective d’un avenir meilleur. A comme mission de défendre et promouvoir les droits de la femme, des enfants et des jeunes en République Démocratique du Congo et de contribuer à leur bien-être. VOICE OF HOPE ASBL BUJUMBURA : Est une association sans But lucratif à caractère religieux qui œuvre au Burundi dans la capitale de Bujumbura. Travaille dans le cadre humanitaire pour le soutien des enfants orphelins, appui aux femmes veuves et vulnérables et pour la promotion de la jeunesse dans la diversité. SORAC : La Société religieuse des Amis au Congo a comme mission de Consolider la spiritualité et accompagner les processus du développement local. SORAC Prône sur la réunification des quakers congolais(e) et consolider l’amour du prochain, Organiser de festival pour la paix, Soutiens les personnes vulnérables et Accompagner les personnes en détresse. CENTRE DE FORMATION DES ENFANTS TRAUMATISÉS ET DÉLAISSÉ/MITWABA A LUBUMBASHI: Est une association sans But lucratif qui œuvre au Congo dans la province du Haut Katanga, territoire de MITWABA. Travaille dans le cadre humanitaire pour venir en aide aux enfants orphelins et plus démunie, et promouvoir la jeunesse en leurs assurant une éducation de base. Il Développe les activités génératrices comme les activités agricoles, afin de lutter contre l’insécurité alimentaire et de la pauvreté au profit des enfants, jeunes et des veuves. ACTION JEUNESSE POUR L’ENVIRONNEMENT ET LE DEVELOPPEMENT AJED: Se fixe d’impliquer la jeunesse dans les actions de protection de l’environnement, conservation de la nature et de développement en vue de les aider de répondre aux problèmes des générations présentes sans compromettre aux générations futures de répondre aux leurs. Intervient dans les domaines suivant : Formation professionnelle, entrepreneuriat et lutte contre la pauvreté, droits de l’Homme (enfant et femme), résolution pacifique des conflits et cohabitation pacifique, accès des communautés à l’énergie/électricité et aux ressources naturelles, lutte contre les violences se*****es basées sur les genres et le VIH/SIDA, Promotion du genre et égalité entre les sexes, désarmement, démobilisation et réinsertion des jeunes et des enfants soldats dans des forces et groupes armés, environnement et la conservation de la nature, eau, hygiène et assainissement, autonomisation socio-économique et leadership de la femme. About us
The African Great Lakes Region Consortium is a union of 12 associations (Congolese and Burundian) that work in solidarity to support the education of orphaned children, peace, refugees, and the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of women survivors of sexual violence. Mission
Contribute to the reconstruction of the broken hearts and lives of victims of armed conflicts in the African Great Lakes region by giving them hope to become themselves, able to work to take care of themselves away from armed conflict and violence. General objective: To work in solidarity to support the vulnerable of the African Great Lakes Region (Burundi and D. The Beneficiaries
- Orphaned children are identified for school assistance;
- Assisted orphaned children attend schools in their areas (villages, towns);
- Training on peace and positive conflict transformation is given to members of local communities;
- Exchange committees on the positive transformation of conflicts are set up by the members and operational in the local communities benefiting from the project;
- Training on trauma care for refugees and those helping refugees,
- Women/girls who are survivors of sexual violence are identified and trained according to their chosen paths of income-generating activities; so that they can take charge of their own life activity and income generation. Expected Results
- (1) Many of the orphaned children who had access to school improved their literacy/reading and numeracy skills;
- (2) Many of the peace training sessions have taken place in the villages/areas and their beneficiaries have been involved in promoting peace actions;
- (3) Many of the women/girls survivors of assisted sexual violence take care of themselves from their income-generating activities.

WOMEN FUTURE LIFE : Aims to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic, cultural and professional conditions of children, women, young people and families surviving humanitarian crises and/or armed conflicts and natural disasters in the Democratic Republic of Congo seeking a better future. Its mission is to defend and promote the rights of women, children and young people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to contribute to their wellbeing. FRIENDS WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION (FWA): Caring for HIV-positive people, Improving women's reproductive health, Supporting r**e victims and Helping survivors of sexual violence to heal and reintegrate into their communities socially and economically, struggling against sexual violence. VOICE OF HOPE ASBL BUJUMBURA : Is a non-profit association of a religious nature that works in Burundi in the capital of Bujumbura. Works in the humanitarian framework for the support of orphaned children, support for widowed and vulnerable women and for the promotion of youth in diversity. SORAC: The Religious Society of Friends in Congo has the mission to consolidate spirituality and accompany local development processes. SORAC advocates for reunification of Congolese Quakers, consolidates neighborly love, organizes a peace festival, supports vulnerable people, and accompanies people in distress (refugees, displaced, etc.) Support for orphaned children education
TRAINING CENTER FOR TRAUMATIZED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN/MITWABA IN LUBUMBASHI: Is a non-profit association that works in Congo in the province of Haut Katanga, Mitwaba territory. Works in the humanitarian context to help orphaned and other deprived children, and to promote youth by providing them with basic education. It develops generative activities such as agricultural activities, in order to fight against food insecurity and poverty for the benefit of children, young people and widows. Its mission is to train, inform, supervise, initiate and accompany people in difficulty and all women and girls in self-care, the peaceful living together of different ethnic communities. AJED: YOUTH ACTION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT aims to involve young people in environmental protection, nature conservation and development actions aimed at helping them respond to the problems of present generations without compromising future generations to respond to their own problems. Dear friends,

As you know, Sexual violence remains one of the most devastating realities facing women and girls in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. R**e does not only harm the body; it fractures families, livelihoods, mental health, and a woman’s place in her community. Many survivors are abandoned by their husbands, rejected by their families, and left to raise children born of r**e in extreme poverty and isolation. Others are forced to stop farming or income-generating activities because of trauma, illness, or stigma, leaving them without a means to survive.

Yet healing is possible. With appropriate medical care, psychological support, and community-based treatment, survivors can begin to reclaim their health, dignity, and hope.

The Consortium coordinator Dr. Dieudonné Bisibo Alimasi MD participated in a Alternatives to Nonviolence Project Training Workshop “Special Thematic Series on Culture of Justice and Peace” (an adaptation of the AVP Project for Peacebuilders and Activists) https://friendspeaceteams.org/a-testimonial-from-africa/ . Three Members of the Consortium including ASSA ECA, NERVAL Songolo and Socrate Imani Matabaro participated in the 19th Healing and Rebluilding Trainers Training our HROC Communities in Burundi/Bujumbura. These experiences will allow the Consortium to organize workshops in the DR Congo for the benefit of the Community.
Project to support education for vulnerable people
124 children from primary, secondary and university schools received school fees to complete the 2024-2025 school year. Their results will be published in the third quarter report.
Peace and Conflict Resolution Project
A workshop on capacity building for young and women leaders on inheritance rights and peaceful cohabitation was held in Uvira/ DR Congo. 18 people including 12 women, girls, 6 young boys and men participated. The topics covered are: Peaceful Cohabitation, Rules relating to the inheritance reserve, Special Rules governing small inheritances, Principles governing the administration of the liquidation ¬of the estate.
A workshop on the issue of peace, challenges and perspectives in South Kivu in general and Uvira in particular was held in Uvira/ DR Congo.
21 participants; including 3 women and 18 men from civil society organizations, community leaders and young people. This workshop had the following objectives: Analyze the root causes and current dynamics of the conflicts in South Kivu and Uvira, document and raise awareness of the extent of human rights violations and their impact on local communities, Propose courses of action for Peacebuilding, social reconstruction and community resilience
Awareness project on family planning, HIV-AIDS and nutrition.
In a context marked by numerous vulnerabilities among young people in terms of sexual and reproductive health (SRH), a three-day workshop was organized to equip young girls, boys and newlyweds with practical and inspiring knowledge on SRH. The objective was to strengthen their autonomy, their sense of responsibility and their motivation to adopt healthy behaviors, while pursuing their life dreams. The day was marked by an enriching meeting with Dr. Alexia NIBONA , general practitioner. She shared her personal and professional journey, highlighting:
The challenges of a young girl in a demanding world, particularly in terms of sexual responsibilities. The importance of principles, mentors and resilience in success. Her strengths, weaknesses, failures and successes. Interactive exchanges with young people, who asked many relevant questions to which she answered with transparency and encouragement. Participants explored the basic notions of the menstrual cycle, considered an essential foundation for talking about sexual and reproductive health.
Youth Promotion
10 young girls and boys continue to acquire computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel and the Internet in Bukavu. Note that the learning materials are still insufficient and require your support to improve this activity.
Trauma Healing Project
15 young mothers are benefiting from the second phase of training in cutting and sewing as part of the socio-economic reintegration of traumatized people in Bukavu/DRC. We started these activities at the beginning of June in Bukavu despite the area being occupied by rebels.
Widowed women in Burundi are benefiting from microfinance to help their families develop Project Baho “Be there." Currently, five women have been added to the list of beneficiaries of this project.
Project to improve the socio-economic conditions of Burundian refugees
70 Burundian refugee women are benefiting from microfinance to improve their socio-economic conditions in Baraka/ DRCongo. We are gradually increasing the number of beneficiaries depending on the availability of funds. We have added 10 women from our database for this quarter. This project started in 2023.
GBV Fight Project
We conducted an awareness workshop on GBV (gender-based violence) in Baraka, 25 people participated. We recorded 21 cases of sexual violence from Katang / Fizi village for a period of three months and they were taken care of by our psychologist then transferred to Baraka hospital for medical care.

Presentation on the current situation in the Democratic
Republic of Congo
Hello dear friends,
I am Doctor Dieudonné Bisibo Alimasi , Quaker from the DRC and Coordinator of the
Consortium which brings together eleven local Quaker and non-Quaker organizations from
Burundi and Congo.
I would like to share some reality of the current situation in the DRC.
As you know, there is an armed conflict between M23 and the Congolese Armed Force
supported by Wazalendo which is causing a humanitarian and security crisis in the East of the
DRC.
On the security front: Thousands of people have lost their lives, most of them young people
and children, Every day the number of refugees increases in Goma and Bukavu, some are in
refugee camps and others in host families. Others have gone to the refugee camp in Burundi.
After the M23 took over the city of Goma and Bukavu, the situation is still precarious,
killings and massacres are recorded every day, we record at least seven to ten deaths per day
and we report the looting of large companies in Bukavu and Goma. M23 forces young people
to join the army.
On the Humanitarian level: The conditions in which the population of the East of the DRC
lives are really precarious, the refugees live in tarpaulins, food and insecurity increase in cases
of malnutrition especially among children and pregnant women. The population drinks
untreated lake water, which causes the risks of diarrhea. While the conditions deteriorate women
and girls are faced with an increased risk of violence and sexual exploitation.
Certainly, there are international organizations that have already intervened in this crisis, but there are
still needs that require support.
Goma International Airport and banks are closed but we hope it will be able to operate soon.
Crisis management
The Quakers of the DRC are about to develop a committee that will be composed of 7 to 10 people for
the management of humanitarian crises. The committee will be composed of members of the
Consortium of the African Great Lakes Region, Community of the Evangelical Church of Friends and
Quakers Peace Network, which will be communicated to you soon.
Recommendations
We call upon all Quakers and non-Quakers peace supporters to intervene in the current situation in the
DRC so that we can find a lasting peace that we have been missing for 30 years.
We call on humanitarian organizations to intervene in different areas to help the suffering population.
We are calling on potential donors to provide support to respond to this humanitarian crisis.

The deadline to submit NEW projects, project edits, appeals, and reports is Wednesday, March 19. As we shared previously, we recommend waiting until after the campaign is over to submit your campaign follow-up appeal for approval, so please know that you can wait to submit your final appeal.

As shared during the project-posting webinar, please keep the following best practices in mind for your project page(s):

Action-Oriented Title: For example, “Empower, Engage, Educate in Rural Kenya!”).

Compelling and People-Centric Visuals: Please make sure your main photo is not your organization's logo.

Clear and Distinct Donation Options: Use these to illustrate the breadth of your work and help donors imagine how far their donation will go.
