Did You Know?

Our watershed is home to incredible biodiversity - think roughly 240 bird species, 50 mammals, plus reptiles and amphibians that rely on wetlands, creeks, grasslands, aspen groves, and wooded bluffs. Those same natural areas act like nature’s sponges, helping recharge aquifers and improve water quality.

Every tree planted or wetland protected today means better habitat AND cleaner water tomorrow. Want to get involved in tree planting or habitat projects? Give us a call at 306-783-1696. (Photo credit Unsplash)

Post 1 of Hwy 9 Lakes series - Crater Lake - Hwy9 Road Trip Gem

Driving South of Yorkton on Hwy 9, you can't miss Crater Lake. That perfect little circular lake right beside the road (approx. 5 km from the junction of Hwy 9 & Hwy 15). This unique geological collapse feature is a true Saskatchewan surprise. Whether the water is still and reflective or sparkling in the sunshine, it invites one to pull over for a quick photo.

It's a beautiful reminder of how special our local water bodies are. That's why the work of the Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association (AWSA) matters so much - protecting aquifers, supporting land owners, and keeping our watershed healthy for the future.

Did you know?

Regenerative agriculture is one of the most powerful tools for protecting our watershed. By improving soil health, increasing organic matter, and using practices like shelter belts and cover crops, regenerative agriculture mixes innovative farming and grazing practices to rebuild organic matter and restore soil biodiversity. This process enhances soil fertility and crop health.

The AWSA offers culvert mapping services to all of its member municipalities.
The data provided by this service can be utilized for asset management and/or water management purposes.
The optimal time to perform this service is early spring, when the flowing water and lack of vegetation in the road ditches makes for more efficient culvert location. If you think that your RM may benefit from culvert infrastructure mapping don’t hesitate to get in contact with the AWSA to discuss your particular needs.
