This might be a very hard day for a lot of people, not just within Yorkton but within nearly every city and every province of Canada. What you need to know is that this will not break us. No march, protest, or event is ever going to take away from the fact that you are important. You deserve your place within this world, within your city, within your schools. Your story, your education, your everything matters. You have the right to exist within your school, the right to feel safe within those halls, and the right to seek guidance and help while you are there. You deserve a chance to exist as proudly as you would like, to learn more about yourself, etc. Do not let anyone ever tell you otherwise. I see you, we see you, and we are so proud of you. It doesn’t matter if you are out or not, if you’re open or not, you are an amazing soul worth fighting for. Nothing will change that.
So if the time comes, if today becomes overwhelming, or if at any point you think that this hatred might win, know that we are standing beside you. We are in your corner, we are thinking of you and every other beautiful person within our community. We know what it’s like to face these hardships, and we will be there with you every step of the way should you need it. You are not in this alone.
There is nothing more beautiful and powerful, than a person that chooses to be themselves.
