Our vision: Women and girls will have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live them dreams. There are nearly 100,000 Soroptimists in 125 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. The name Soroptimist means ‘best for women’ and that’s what the organization strives to achieve
. Soroptimist members in local clubs determine the volunteer projects conducted in their communities. Club projects range from renovating domestic violence shelters, to sponsoring self-esteem workshops for teenage girls to providing funding for programs for street-engaged women. Coming from a variety of cultures, ethnic groups and ages, we represent a wide array of professionals who are leaders in our communities. We believe in the power of joining together to make the world a better place for women and girls. Soroptimist membership provides a unique opportunity to do meaningful, life-changing work in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. Soroptimist members are women who use their special expertise and management skills to advance the work of the group. Members have opportunities for leadership development and are mentored by experienced members. Members choose to work in one of our four planning groups that suit their talents and interest:
1. Membership
2. Programs 4. Fundraising
We value the ideas and energy SI women bring to the table. Everyone embraces the projects generated in the spirit of making a difference. We welcome women in the community to come out to a meeting and join us in the work we do on behalf of women and girls in York Region and around the world. Together, we can make a difference! Belonging to Soroptimist offers the opportunity to work with like-minded women towards a common goal. There are also ongoing learning and leadership training opportunities. The annual membership fee helps support international projects and club operations.
