Southwestern Nova Scotia is entering another high-contrast weather pattern, with a quiet and seasonable day today followed by a strong wind and rain event Monday into Tuesday, then a sharp return to colder air mid-week.

Southwestern Nova Scotia is currently in the warm sector of a broad southwest flow pattern, bringing unusually mild air into the region. Temperatures today and tomorrow will reach levels more typical of mid-April, before a cold frontal passage mid-week returns us to more seasonable conditions and possibly even some flurries by the end of the week.

• Breezy southwest winds developing

Temperatures climbing to around 12°C inland, which is 9°C above normal for this time of year.

The strong March sun angle combined with these temperatures will noticeably accelerate snowmelt.

🌙 TONIGHT — Mild Evening

Coastal areas will again remain significantly cooler due to the cold Atlantic waters.

🌙 TUESDAY NIGHT

Clear skies and calm conditions overnight.

Another mild night for this time of year.

☁ WEDNESDAY — Pattern Turning

High: 7°C

Cloud cover increases through the day as the next frontal system approaches from the west.

YARMOUTH WEATHER SERVICE — OFFICIAL FORECAST DISCUSSION
Issued: Sunday March 8, 2026 | 11:00 AM ADT
Area: Yarmouth County

We are currently in a very mild maritime air mass across southwestern Nova Scotia, producing drizzle, fog, and spring-like temperatures today. Once this system exits tonight, the region will enter an unusually warm stretch early this week — potentially reaching the mid-teens by Tuesday before a sharp pattern change later in the week brings temperatures back toward winter levels.

The next several days show a large temperature swing, which is typical for early March.

🌧 TODAY — Damp & Mild

High: 8°C
Wind: SW 20 km/h gusting 40

Cloudy skies dominate today with showers or drizzle and fog patches across the region.

Rainfall amounts of 5–10 mm are expected through the day.

This type of weather is being driven by moist southwest flow off the Atlantic, where mild air is riding over cooler surface air, creating low clouds and fog.

Even with rain and cloud cover, temperatures remain well above the seasonal norm.

Normal high for this time of year is around +3°C, so today’s temperatures are about 5°C above average.

🌙 TONIGHT — Clearing Trend

Low: +2°C

Showers taper off and skies begin to clear late this evening as the system moves offshore.

Fog patches will dissipate early in the evening as winds gradually weaken.

Temperatures remain well above freezing overnight.

☀ MONDAY — Mild Sunshine

High: 10°C
Wind: SW 20 km/h gusting 40

High pressure briefly builds in behind the departing system.

Expect:

• Mainly sunny skies
• Breezy southwest winds
• Temperatures reaching around 10°C inland

Cooler air remains near the ocean, so coastal communities may stay closer to 5°C.

Even so, this is a very mild day for early March.

🌙 MONDAY NIGHT

Low: +4°C

Partly cloudy and mild overnight with no major weather systems nearby.

☀ TUESDAY — Exceptionally Warm

High: 14°C

This could be the warmest day so far this year.

Strong southwest flow ahead of the next frontal system will push temperatures well into the teens.

At 14°C, that is over 10°C above normal.

With sunshine and a strengthening March sun angle, it will feel very spring-like.

Snowbanks will shrink quickly.

🌙 TUESDAY NIGHT

Low: +2°C

Clouds gradually increase ahead of the next disturbance.

☁ WEDNESDAY — Turning Unsettled

High: 7°C

Cloudy with a 30% chance of showers.

Temperatures begin trending downward as cooler air approaches from the west.

🌧 WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Low: +5°C

Showers become more widespread overnight.

🌧 THURSDAY — Rainy & Mild

High: 9°C

Periods of rain continue as a frontal system moves through Atlantic Canada.

🌙 THURSDAY NIGHT — Cold Front

Low: −1°C

Behind the system, colder air begins pushing back into the region.

Temperatures drop below freezing overnight.

🌨 FRIDAY — Much Cooler

High: +1°C

A mix of sun and cloud with temperatures returning closer to seasonal values.

🌙 FRIDAY NIGHT

Low: −2°C

Flurries possible overnight.

🌨 SATURDAY — Back to Late Winter

High: +1°C

Cloudy with periods of flurries as colder air remains in place.

📊 Pattern Overview

Normal temperatures for this time of year:

High: +3°C
Low: −3°C

Upcoming highs:

• 8°C today
• 10°C Monday
• 14°C Tuesday
• Cooling to 1°C by Friday

That’s a 13°C temperature swing within four days.

This dramatic shift is being driven by a strong warm sector early in the week followed by a cold frontal passage late week.

Bottom Line

• Damp and foggy today with drizzle and showers
• Clearing tonight
• Mild and sunny Monday
• Very warm Tuesday (near 14°C)
• Showers return mid-week
• Much cooler again by Friday with flurries possible

Early March is showing its classic spring–winter tug-of-war across southwestern Nova Scotia.
