While this picture only shows one step in the chain of hope, the true path is: organic farm by Spalding SK > Farmland Legacies for bagging into individual portions > mini-van > warehouse @ Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre on May 11th > people served and helped. Thank you, Saskatoon Food Bank & all such agencies, for what you do! And our good friends at the Saskatchewan Community Foundation (Forbes Foundation) for helping us make this happen.

In mid-April we took the opportunity to donate ground beef & lentils to Yorkton's Shelwin House and Bruno's Place as well as the Melville & District Foodbank - organizations which work so hard to benefit their communities. Thank you, Saskatchewan Community Foundation (via the Forbes Foundation), for helping us build our province in ways like this.

Making a difference! Farmland Legacies received 2025 grant funding from the G. Murray & Edna Forbes Foundation which we happily convert into tangible help like the ground beef Steve delivered to Foam Lake Food Bank earlier in February. The Forbes Foundation, now managed by the Saskatchewan Community Foundation, began to generously impact our communities starting in 2002 – thank you!

On February 1st our Executive Director Joel delivered organic lentils to GURU NANAK Free Kitchen as their volunteers set up for their weekly food truck service in Regina. We are honored to cooperate with organizations like this which so selflessly help our communities, even in cold Saskatchewan winters!

A few weeks ago our Food Programs manager Steve delivered ground beef to 4 great organizations who meet the need of our communities: Lanigan and District Food Bank, Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen, Humboldt and District Food Bank and Wynyard & District Wynyard and District Food Bank. We are honored to work with such great people! A special thanks to the Saskatchewan Community Foundation and the G. Murray & Edna Forbes Foundation for the support we've received for projects like these!

Farmland Legacies has gratefully received generous support through the G. Murray & Edna Forbes Foundation Fund held by the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation for our Harvest for Hunger program! The aim of the program is to provide locally and sustainably grown food to those in need in our local communities. The Community Foundation and its funds are such a great partner in building a better Saskatchewan!

Each year on World Food Day, Farmland Legacies opens an invitation to support our Harvest for Hunger Program – providing highly nutritious food, sustainably produced on local farms, alleviating hunger in our local communities.

We endeavor to source local food produced using sustainable methods. This allows us to provide food insecure people with highly nutritious food while at the same time supporting farmers who are caring for the planet.

Since last year’s World Food Day appeal, we’ve provided 82,550 servings of protein to organizations supporting food insecure populations - the pictures are from these deliveries. Our goal for 2026 is to provide over 85,000 servings. Since the start of the program, we have delivered over 600,000 servings! That’s a legacy to be proud of and one that you have helped to create.

The theme of this year’s World Food Day is “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.” Supporting our Harvest for Hunger Program is one way you can contribute toward that vision. We invite you to partner with us in this important work – feeding people and caring for the planet! www.farmlandlegacies.org/donate

Farmland Legacies is excited to announce the appointment of Joel Mowchenko as our new Executive Director! Joel brings a rich background of experience, interest & insight to this role. Welcome, Joel! Joel has “hit the ground running” in many ways already – these pics from early September show him making lentil deliveries from our food program to 3 wonderful agencies in Moose Jaw – Hope Ministries Moose Jaw Inc, Hunger in Moose Jaw, and Moose Jaw and District Food Bank.

A road trip to Prince Albert on August 13 to deliver protein (beef & lentils) to three awesome organizations dedicated to the good of their community: Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women, The Salvation Army Prince Albert Community Ministries, and P.A Food Bank. The people who reach out with kindness and support in these organizations are all heroes! And we are grateful for the help provided with the beef by the G. Murray & Edna Forbes Foundation Fund (administered by the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation).

This staff member at the Regina & District Food Bank is holding up one of the 800 one-pound bags of lentils which Farmland Legacies delivered a couple of weeks ago. Lentils are a great source of protein which can extend the nutritional reach of many a meal - so important in these days of high food prices. Farmland Legacies loves working with those valued organizations in our society which provide food and hope!
