One year later.

A year ago, the Acadia Pool closed and the varsity swim team was cut without consultation. Our community lost a vital space for health, training, and connection - and we’re still waiting to see real progress on a new pool for Kings County.

The continue to train and compete without a home pool, delivering strong results despite the challenges.

To the former Acadia swimmers - and university swimmers from across our region - competing this weekend at AUS Championships and at OUA’s, RESQ’s, and other regional championships this month: we’re cheering you on. Your dedication and resilience continue to make this community proud.
You should still be swimming for Acadia. We should all still have the Acadia Pool to swim in - not sitting empty when a fully funded solution was offered.

Acadia University has claimed they are tight on money and have budget constraints, yet at athlete orientations this fall they added a cash value gifted ‘draw’ of eight $500 credits. While we do not begrudge any of the athletes who received this cash, we must question where the university got this money from?

Leadership Fails; blaming finances! Read the full article below. Leadership can REOPEN Acadia’s pool. Fiscal excuses can’t hide leadership failures at Acadia University, says pool committee member

Opinion | October 8, 2025
Re: “Higher education is under pressure, and we’re up to the challenge,” (The Hill Times, Sept. 24, p. 18).

I was disappointed by the recent article from the president of Acadia University about the state of the school that referenced the closure of its pool and aquatic programming. His explanation was incomplete and misleading, presenting the decision as a fiscal necessity. The reality points to failed leadership, selective truth-telling, and disregard for community impact.

The president wants us to believe the closure was about money. It wasn’t. It was about leadership. No one was consulted: not alumni, governments, pool users, or community groups. Despite numerous willing partners, he made no effort to seek support or solutions. Even a no-cost proposal to keep the pool open until a new one was ready was ignored, and likely never presented to the Board of Governors.
The pool—jointly funded by the town, university, and users—served primarily local residents, representing approximately 80 per cent of users. With no comparable facility nearby, its closure means a generation will miss out on swimming lessons, water safety, and aquatic programs. Seniors lose their lane swims and aqua-fit classes. Roughly 75 per cent of the varsity swim team has transferred to other schools, along with the new recruits, deepening Acadia’s losses. COMMENTARY CONTINUES IN THE FIRST COMMENT.

COME VISIT US & CHAT WITH US THIS SATURDAY! Pick up a lawn sign to show support and keep the momentum going!! We are still pushing for transparency and a path to REOPENING Acadia Pool. We fully support the new King’s County Wellness Centre but with pools being at a massive shortage in our area and province, REOPENING Acadia would bridge the gap for lessons and community wellness!

Wishing the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club a great season!

The Wolfville Tritons 2025-2026 season is right around the corner!

We have received many questions, but yes, our club will continue operating this season! We will be using both the Kings-Edgehill School pool (KES) and Waterville pool this season. We are incredibly thankful to both facilities for being so accommodating for our club. Hope lives on!

We are saddened by Acadia’s decision to close our club’s home after 53 years, but are feeling optimistic knowing that Kings County is planning to move ahead with their plans for a Regional Health and Wellness Sports Centre, which includes a new pool!

We are welcoming anyone who is interested in joining the Wolfville Tritons! Please feel free to reach out to our Head Coach, Hayden Adams at [email protected] if you are interested or have any questions.

With over 8,200 signatures, the Save Acadia Pool petition has been one of the most powerful public movements in Nova Scotia in recent years. This is not just about a pool - it’s about our community and how Acadia refuses to listen. We want the pool reopened and bridge the gap while the new pool in King’s County gets built. It can be done. We need your help.
