Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to by his title 'O Sensei' or 'Great Teacher'). On a purely physical level it is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and some throws and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kic
king opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. Aikido can be practised by everyone, regardless of age, gender, size, or strength. Many Aikidoists practise for life, as it allows you to adapt your 'defence' to suit your ability as your body changes. It offers the incredible benefits of improving your flexibility and stamina, while providing cardio benefits as well as focus and awareness, which assists in improvement of all aspects of life. Self-defence comes naturally as you explore techniques in Aikido. Classes are offered on the Acadia University Campus at the Clark Commons building on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 for approximately an hour and a half. We train year round in an air conditioned environment, and beginners can join at any time. You are welcome to come for a few classes at no charge to explore the benefits of Aikido. If you wish to continue your training, registration is offered for a university semester, or on an annual basis at a very reasonable cost. Take the first step toward 'centering' your life. ยท
