Creative Manitoba's Indigenous Program provides workshops and programs for and by Indigenous cultural workers, artists and art enthusiasts. We work with Indigenous artists of all disciplines-contemporary and traditional-and offer networking, educational, and hands-on experiences that promote Indigenous arts and artists at every level. All facilitators employ a mentorship approach from an Indigenous perspective that fosters art, cultural, and professional development while empowering, supporting, and engaging our communities. The Indigenous Program exists to:

• Support Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and art organizations to meet their professional goals pertaining to Indigenous art and cultural practices

• Develop programs that foster the emergence of Indigenous cultural leadership at every level

• Identify and/or promote initiatives and projects that focus on Indigenous contributions in arts, culture and heritage sectors, and work towards the revitalization and empowerment of our communities

Looking for support and direction with the business side of your art? Applications for The Art of Managing Your Career are open now and we want to see you there!

This program runs from January through March of 2027 and provides artists of any age and discipline with access to business skills training delivered by seasoned industry professionals. Participants will also get access to coaching from experts in business planning, finance and tax management, marketing and social media, and work-life balance. And because life in the arts shouldn’t all be serious, there will be social sharing nights and showcase opportunities! In partnership with Manitoba Music, this course offers an excellent chance to connect and network with Winnipeg’s creative community.

INTRODUCING: Akwaamajiwe (he/she/they climbs a hill or mountain): a Professional Development Workshop Series for Indigenous Artists presented by the Indigenous Protocols Collective and CARFAC National!

Over the course of Fall 2026 and Winter 2027, a series of six professional development workshops will be available for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) Artists in Canada to gain practical skills and knowledge. We invite all FNMI in Canada to register for any or all of the six workshops that speak to your practice.

Each workshop explores tools and considerations that support FNMI Artists at any stage of their careers. Together, these sessions create opportunities to further build foundational knowledge, learn from one another, and build confidence in navigating professional challenges.

All workshops will take place online via Zoom and are free to attend. These sessions are intended exclusively for FNMI Artists in Canada. You do not have to be an active CARFAC member to attend. Workshops will not be recorded, creating intentional space for conversation, shared learning, and exchange among Indigenous Artists.

If you apply for funding through the Manitoba Arts Council / Conseil des arts du Manitoba , there are some important updates to be aware of.

MAC has announced changes to several programs, grant deadlines, reporting requirements and assessment processes. They’ve also released new guidelines around the use of AI, noting that human-created content is valued as the basis of arts and culture.

Artists should take a look at the latest updates before submitting their next application, especially if you use AI tools during the application or creative process.
