🛶 **Help Our Scouts & Venturers Build Their Own Canoe Paddles**

This year the youth in the **3rd Winnipeg Scout Group** have taken on an exciting hands-on project — carving and shaping their own wooden canoe paddles.

Through this project they’re learning traditional outdoor skills, woodworking, patience, and pride in creating something with their own hands that they’ll one day take on the water.

To make this project possible, we’re hoping our community might have some **woodworking tools sitting unused in a garage or workshop** that could be donated to the group.

We are currently looking for items such as:
• Spokeshaves
• Hand planers
• Wood rasps/files
• Wood carving tools
• Clamps
• Sanding blocks
• Other small woodworking tools

These tools will be used by our **Scouts and Venturers (ages 11–17)** as they learn to safely shape and finish their paddles.

If you have tools you’d be willing to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. Your donation will directly support local youth learning practical skills, teamwork, and outdoor adventure.

🌱 It's seed time friends! We have officially launched 3rd Winnipeg's next fundraiser - and it's GARDEN TIME! Get ready to grow with us!

Running March 15, 2026 to April 9, 2026 we are collecting orders to help fund-raise for our group. Fundraising will go towards equipment repairs and upgrades, facility rentals, and to help offset spring and summer camping programming.

Every Beaver, Cub, Scout, Venturer, Rover, and Scouter is collecting orders - so if you know someone in 3rd Winnipeg you can order directly through them. Or you can send us a message on what you'd like to order (local to Winnipeg only) and we can get you set up!

🐺 Our cubs worked on some more skills for Klondike this week. Knots, lashing, compass work and teamwork were the goals tonight.

We capped off our Baden-Powell Week with a fantastic 3rd Winnipeg Group potluck, bringing together members from all sections:

🥞✨️ Massive thank you to all those that helped get ready for the pancake fundraiser, helped setup and tear down, making breakfast, and showing up and supporting us!

👚Pink Shirt Day: February 25, 2026👚

In 2007, Berwick, Nova Scotia, after a new student at their school was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. David and Travis, two grade 12 students, had witnessed the scene and that night bought 75 pink shirts to give out and via social media encouraged their classmates to wear pink. The next day they arrived early to distribute the shirts. To their surprise, the majority of students arrived wearing something pink! With that act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day was born.

In recognition of the Berwick event, Nova Scotia proclaimed the second Thursday of September “Stand Up Against Bullying Day.” In 2008, British Columbia proclaimed February 27th to be the provincial anti-bullying day, and the movement has continued to grow. In 2012, the United Nations declared May 4 as Anti-Bullying Day. The last Wednesday each February is Canada’s officially-recognized national Pink Shirt/anti-bullying day.

Many countries recognize specific days for raising awareness about the prevention of bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion. In Canada, many students have heard the Pink Shirt Day message from kindergarten through to their high school graduation. The movement continues to grow.
