Each year on June 17th Iceland Celebrates their National Day, while Western Icelanders in Manitoba celebrate Jón Sigurðsson Day!

Read more about these special celebrations!

Icelandic National Day (Icelandic: Þjóðhátíðardagurinn, the day of the nation's celebration) is an annual holiday in Iceland which commemorates the foundation of The Republic of Iceland on 17 June 1944. This date also marks the end of Iceland's centuries old ties with Denmark. The date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, a major figure of Icelandic culture and the leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement. (Wikipedia)

In Manitoba, June 17th is celebrated as Jón Sigurðsson Day and is commemorated by the IODE Chapter each year with a special wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Jón Sigurðsson on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature in Winnipeg.
The Fjallkona, chosen each year by the Icelandic Festival Committee lays a wreath at the foot of the statue of Jón Sigurðsson. This day is hosted in part by the Jón Sigurðsson Chapter of the IODE, The Icelandic Canadian Frón, Consulate General of Winnipeg and Neil Bardal Funeral Home with celebrations taking place at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre with food and entertainment.

About ADHD
Óskar Guðjónsson - Saxophones
Ómar Guðjónsson - Electric guitar, Electric bass, pedal steel
Tómas Jónsson - Piano, Hammond organ, Synth bass, Melodica
Magnús Trygvason Eliassen - Drums, Percussion

Some bands treat each album as a leap into the unknown. Others evolve through a steady, deliberate expansion of their sound. The Icelandic collective ADHD belongs firmly to the latter.

Describing their live performance in conventional musical terms is nearly impossible. When these four musicians take the stage, the result is immersive and elemental - part ritual, part sonic storm. Their music feels both ancient and immediate, drawing on deep creative reserves that speak to Iceland’s stark landscapes and long winters. The energy they generate is self-sustaining, raw, and electrifying.

ADHD’s sound defies genre boundaries, captivating jazz listeners, rock fans, and adventurous audiences alike. Their music taps into something primal and wordless - older than language, yet fully rooted in the present moment. Expansive, fearless, and intensely imaginative, their performances are less a concert and more a total experience.

ADHD can’t truly be captured in words. It’s something you have to witness.
