Award!

Joan Betty Stuchner, beloved children’s author and teacher, passed away unexpectedly in 2014. Joan was many things: brave, gracious, warm, generous, kind, and absolutely hilarious to boot. (“Oy vey!” she’s probably saying now…)

The $752.81 x 2 Joan Betty Stuchner - Oy Vey! - Funniest Children’s Book Award is presented biennially to the Canadian authors or illustrators of the two works of juvenile writing that had the jury most incapacitated with giggles, buckled over with guffaws, and/or rib-ticklingly, side-splittingly, thigh-slappingly entertained in these two categories

The Art of Translation: Translate a Beloved Poem into English

Saturday November 7, 2-4pm

Millennium Library, 2nd floor Anhang room

Join Winnipeg Public library's Writer-in-Residence Sally Ito and experienced local translator Burl Horniachek for a workshop on the art and technique of translation. Is there a short poem or song you love that’s in your heritage language, or another language you’re familiar with? Bring it to this workshop to translate it into English so that you can share it with others. Dictionaries and technology will be available to help with translation. If you do not have a poem or song to translate, other options will be provided.
