🌟 Connecting Manitoba’s Language Sector!

On October 16, MANSO welcomed 36 participants from 15 language programs, along with WELARC and the MANSO team, for an in-person Language Sector networking event.

Colleagues from English and French language programs came together to connect, share resources and best practices, and learn from each other’s experiences delivering and managing language training across Manitoba.

The conversations, ideas and willingness to share made the day such a success. ❤️

On September 2, MANSO traveled to Morden for a Volunteer Recruitment PD & Networking Day with Volunteer Manitoba, where settlement workers from across the province exchanged recruitment strategies and got a first look at Regional Connections' new Morden office.

Rural settlement work runs on volunteers, and days like this are how the sector gets better at finding and keeping them. Thanks to Volunteer Manitoba for leading the training and to Regional Connections for hosting us.

This Saturday, the Canadian Muslim Women's Institute marks 20 years of their Family Resource Centre with a free community celebration — Sept 5, 1:00 to 5:30 PM at the Burton Cummings Community Centre (960 Arlington St).

Expect henna art, face painting, bouncy castles, carnival games, live programming, and food (including Arabic coffee). CMWI has spent two decades supporting refugees and newcomers with culturally grounded, holistic programming — this is a celebration worth showing up for.

MANSO is heartbroken by the recent attack on the Winnipeg Rahma Islamic Centre. For many newcomers and Muslim families, Rahma is far more than a place of worship. It is a place of connection, support, belonging, and community. Violence targeting spaces like these affects not only those directly involved, but all of us who believe in building welcoming, inclusive, and safe communities.

We stand in solidarity with Rahma's leadership, staff, volunteers, and everyone impacted by this senseless act. While we are grateful that no one was physically injured, we recognize the fear and trauma that incidents like this leave behind.

There is no place for Islamophobia, hatred, or violence in Manitoba. As an umbrella network of newcomer-serving organizations, MANSO remains committed to standing with communities facing hate and to working together to build a province where everyone can live, gather, and worship in safety and dignity.
