MANSO is heartbroken by the recent attack on the Winnipeg Rahma Islamic Centre. For many newcomers and Muslim families, Rahma is far more than a place of worship. It is a place of connection, support, belonging, and community. Violence targeting spaces like these affects not only those directly involved, but all of us who believe in building welcoming, inclusive, and safe communities.

We stand in solidarity with Rahma's leadership, staff, volunteers, and everyone impacted by this senseless act. While we are grateful that no one was physically injured, we recognize the fear and trauma that incidents like this leave behind.

There is no place for Islamophobia, hatred, or violence in Manitoba. As an umbrella network of newcomer-serving organizations, MANSO remains committed to standing with communities facing hate and to working together to build a province where everyone can live, gather, and worship in safety and dignity.

Beyond Borders Community Consultations Complete!

MANSO and Immigration Partnership Winnipeg, with our 10 partner organizations across Manitoba, have completed the first phase of Beyond Borders: community consultations with Indigenous partners, host community members, refugees, and refugee claimants.

We're grateful for all the sharing and engagement — these insights will directly shape the toolkit as we move into development.

Once complete, community members will be trained to deliver the workshop locally, helping counter misinformation, challenge racism toward refugees, and build anti-racism capacity.

This work is being further advanced through the Beyond Borders: Toolkit for Countering Refugee Racism project.

From April 2026 to March 2027, the project will work with partners across Manitoba to design and deliver training and tools that support communities in countering misinformation, challenging racism and harmful narratives, and strengthening anti-racism and anti-hate capacity. The project will also inform a policy brief to support future public policy development. Stay tuned for more information and updates on this initiative.

Refugees are good for Canada — and UNHCR Canada has the data to show it. 💡

Their new report, built on Statistics Canada data, finds refugees are twice as likely as Canadian-born workers to be employed in manufacturing and utilities, and a larger percentage work in health and skilled trades. Their median earnings grow 31.5% within ten years of arrival, and more than 80% become Canadian citizens within a decade.
