Special thanks to Minister Lisa Naylor MLA for Wolseley and her team for a valuable conversation this week on the importance of local school board engagement when it comes to road safety regulation and legislation amendments. This advocacy work is guided directly from our member resolutions passed at our 2026 AGM.

WHAT IS ORANGE SHIRT DAY?

As we prepare to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation—also known as Orange Shirt Day—on September 30, the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is sharing frequently asked questions throughout the month of September.

Today’s question is: What is Orange Shirt Day?

Answer: Orange Shirt Day is a grassroots movement. It raises awareness about the impacts of residential schools.

It takes place on September 30, which is now known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This is a day to honour Survivors and their families, and to remember and commemorate the many children who did not return home from residential schools.

SCO is hosting the 6th Annual Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow on September 30, 2026.

Attend the opening ceremony at 9:30 am at the Oodena Circle in The Forks in Winnipeg.

Afterwards, participants are invited to join a healing walk to the Canada Life Centre.

Meet Respect Sport.

For more than 20 years, The Respect Group has been helping create safer sport environments. Now, we’re entering our next chapter.

Safe sport is about more than completing training. It’s about the everyday behaviours that shape the experience of everyone in the game. How we lead. How we support. How we respond. And the culture we create together.

That thinking is shaping what comes next.

A new name. A new look. A new approach to education. And a bigger commitment to safer, healthier sport environments.

This is Respect Sport.
And this is only the beginning.

Stay tuned...
