Mark your calendars! We are offering our free, hands-on Learn-to-Burn training workshops in preparation for the fall burn season.

Saturday, July 25 - Developing a Burn Plan
Every burn we do must have an approved burn plan in place. Burn plans outline your goals (e.g. fuel reduction or shrub control), provide maps of the burn unit, valuables to protect and potential hazards, a contingency plan and acceptable conditions for burning to achieve the desired outcome. This is all important information for burn crews to know before they set your land on fire. Once your plan is approved, it remains relevant until there are changes in land use (e.g. pasture turned to crop land or vice versa). If you feel intimidated by this, remember - we're here to help you! The SPBA has developed a burn plan template and we will help you get started on July 25.
