Ask Kent Heinrich of Free Ride EV (FNEV) about the reasons people give for not switching to electric, and he's heard them all. The battery will die. It's useless in the cold. There's nowhere to charge.

But he doesn't get defensive about it. He's just done the math, and driven the roads to back it up.

He's put 80,000 km on his own EV through Manitoba winters, and it still charges to the same range it did on day one. Knock off a third for the cold and you're still looking at nearly 300 km, enough to get from Winnipeg to Thompson on the chargers already out there. And if your building can run a dryer, it can run a charger.

His honest read? "The main barrier is mindset. It's when you look at an electric vehicle, and you start going through the cons. Those are the barriers. Eliminating those cons — that's the work."

The truck works fine. It's the story we've been told about it that needs fixing. As Kent puts it to anyone still on the fence: "Are you crazy? Why are you buying gas when you don't have to?"

Manitoba’s Climate Action Fund is currently open for business, offering grants of up to $150,000 for local businesses and non-profits with projects that cut emissions or build climate resilience.

The catch: The deadline is Thursday, October 8th.

That's Dan Belhassen of Neovation Learning Solutions on one of the rare cases where growing and greening pull in the same direction. Because digital learning is inherently scalable, a company can dramatically expand its reach while its per-learner footprint keeps falling.

By his account, the pillars of ESG come up in over two-thirds of Neovation's custom learning conversations, even when the client never uses the term. A manufacturer isn't asking to cut carbon. It's asking to train a global workforce.

It seems the business case for climate action is no longer up for debate.

A massive new UN report just dropped, which shows that investing in integrated climate and clean air action is one of the best economic moves we can make.

In the macro view: Every $1 invested generates $15 in broad economic benefits (like fewer sick days, higher labour productivity, and avoided physical damage).
In the market view: Even excluding the above social benefits, the measures return $4 in direct market value for every $1 invested.

BizforClimate and our signatories know that cutting emissions creates healthier communities and a more productive and resilient local economy.
