Please consider helping us by even donating $20!!! It really helps me continue this important work!!

ugh, I never get a break! I can barely recoup costs for one dog before another dog is urgently needing us.

Wrex is an 8 month old dog we met earlier this year when we hosted a spay and neuter clinic in Pukatawagan. Sadly, he was hit by a vehicle yesterday and unable to walk. His family and community volunteers got together and got him safe and off the road.

Without access to veterinary care in his community, we have to make the difficult decision to euthanize dogs, if we cannot get a plan in place right away.

There’s no scheduled flights daily out of the community to Winnipeg, but thankfully a private charter has been our guardian angel and offered to make space on their plane today for him (and 3 others).

If anyone can spare even $20, I would really appreciate it. I couldn’t let him suffer up north without care but I do worry about the constant emergency bills that consume us!

We love Nelson House. 💖

So many amazing dog owners live there but they still have a ways to go for responsible dog ownership. This is such a great community announcement.

We see them trying and we are so proud. I have utter faith that community-led dog management with respectable outside resources supporting them is the key to our success.

If you want to stop dog shoots while keeping the community safe, it’s important to tackle the roaming dog issue from a health and safety point of view.

Ivy is safe with us. What a sweet little puppy! She weighs only 2 kg and was lucky enough to be rescued before the cold weather arrived.

Winter is coming, and now is the time to start thinking about how we can help the dogs, whether they are our own pets or community dogs.

Leaders, owners, rescuers and volunteers, please start planning now.

Some ways you can help include:
• Providing straw and insulated dog houses
• Building safe fencing
• Donating dog food
• Hiring community helpers or animal control
• Supporting the humane removal of stray dogs
• Planning spay and neuters for community dogs

Small acts of kindness can make a life-saving difference.

How will you help the rez dogs this winter?

Update:

Aw I am so so so beyond sad to tell everyone that Princess indeed did pass away en route. She was unresponsive when she landed in Winnipeg but our volunteer Kim still rushed her to Pembina vet and they confirmed that Princess and her pups passed away 😭😭

What a sad freakin’ day! Thanks to everyone who rushed to Princess’ aid. I know she felt the love and I am crushed that this was a painful outcome. If anyone wants their donations back, please reach out.

Any remaining donations after we pay her flight and cremation, will be used for our ongoing shelter operation costs!
———————————
Princess is up north and has been in labour for 3 days now and she’s not doing well. Her family reached out for help and it’s urgent we fly her to Winnipeg and try and save her.

Having a sick pet without resources or vet knowledge is so devastating and can cause serious stress among families! Remote communities in Manitoba have never had access to vet care!

One pup was born already and sadly didn’t make it and it looks like one is stuck in the birth canal. Mama is unresponsive now and has pale gums.

Can you spare $20? Please to help us get Princess across the lake, flown to Winnipeg and straight to the emergency vet.

Without us stepping in, she won’t make it I fear.

E-transfers/PayPal donations can be sent to [email protected] with “Princess” in the message. vetcare

A few weeks ago, we rescued these two beautiful pups, and thankfully D’Arcy’s A.R.C. was able to take them into care and put them up for adoption!

The little one recovering from demodex mange (non contagious) is a boy, and the shepherd cross is a girl from the dump. They have already come so far and are now ready to find the loving homes they deserve.

Head down to D’Arcy’s A.R.C. and adopt one of these sweet babies!

Giving your heart to these little ones who truly have no one changes you.

Sick and injured rez dogs have taken up most of my time, my thoughts, and my heart since 2012. It is a sad reality that has become such a huge part of my life.

Some days, the fire inside me burns brightly. I have high hopes for positive change. Other days, it is so dimly lit that I wonder if the flame is even still there.

Then another little one arrives, sick, injured, scared and completely alone. Somehow, I find enough of that flame to keep going. I appreciate all who help keep that flame lit.

Because if we don’t show up for them, who will?
