Our History

It all began for Capitol Lodge on the 1st day of December, 1921 when a dispensation was granted for the seventeen brethren to form a lodge, designated Capitol Lodge, to meet on the first Friday of each month. Jackson and the seal of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba. During the early months in the year 1921 reference had been made regarding the growth of our craft. Many of the city lodges were growing in membership and becoming unwieldy. The timing was right for the formation of new lodges. Joe Mills of Ionic No. 25 and sixteen other brethren were meeting to discuss the formation of a new lodge for their group. Many of them were stationary engineers and they held their meetings in the power house of the legislative buildings. When the question of a name for their new lodge was discussed it was chosen when they all looked out the window in the powerhouse and viewed the dome of our capitol building – Capitol Lodge – our emblem.

Capitol Lodge No. 136 is deeply honored to receive one of the Grand Lodge Excellence Awards presented by Most Worshipful the Grandmaster of Grand lodge of Manitoba A.F and A.M. Brother Rey Galapon, now Immediate Passt Grandmaster, recognizing lodges that have executed exemplary demonstration during the 2025–2026 Masonic year.

This recognition is a tremendous boost to our spirits and a testament to the dedication, hard work, and unity of our brethren. We are sincerely grateful for this award, and it inspires us to continue striving each day to do our very best in service to our Lodge, our communities, and the betterment of Freemasonry as a whole.

Whether you took home a prize or simply enjoyed the experience, every participant is truly a winner because a portion of the proceeds from this year’s derby will be donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba to help support kids and families in need.

Your participation helped make a positive impact in our community, and we are grateful for each and every one of you who came out to support this special cause while enjoying a great day of fishing and fellowship.

From the early morning casts to the unforgettable moments shared throughout the day, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this event truly special.

Rain or shine, our Annual Fishing Derby is still happening! Current forecast shows possible rain and cooler weather, so we encourage everyone to come prepared with raincoats, jackets, boots for mud, warmers, portable chairs, and anything to keep you warm and comfortable outdoors.

Don’t let a little rain stop the fun — great fellowship, exciting catches, prizes, food, and unforgettable memories are waiting for everyone! We look forward to seeing all Brethren, families, volunteers, sponsors, and participants out on the water. 🎣🔥
