The PJ Library program offers the gift of free, high-quality Jewish books and music each month to children ages 6 month through 8 years. PJ Library books celebrate important aspects of Jewish culture, values, and tradition and become cherished bedtime stories. Get • Time to spread some JOY! Tonight is the start of Lag B'Omer, and here's what that means exactly.⁠

The meaning of “Lag” is “thirty-three,” derived from gematria, a system of associating each Hebrew letter with a number. “B’Omer” (pronounced "ba-omer") means “of the Omer,” the 49-day period between Passover and Shavuot. ⁠
⁠
So, Lag B’Omer is the 33rd day of this timeframe, and some of the traditional ways of celebrating involve milestones that make the day stand out from the rest of this period between major holidays. That means haircuts, parades, and even weddings! Outdoor activities like bonfires, barbecues, hikes, and picnics are also popular choices.⁠
